My Three Year-Old’s Crazy Airplane Obsession
"Folks, this is your captain from the flight deck. We are currently 8th in line for take-off, behind two pieces of wood nailed together. We might be here a while."
This may be one of those posts where I’m alone in a dark sea of bizarre family habits, or I could find an island of friends whose children have a similar obsession.
Airplanes.
My kids love them.
There might be a reason.
One tiny reason.
Their Dad is also in love with airplanes. In fact, he has a pilot’s license, has partially owned a small aircraft and even planned (threatened?) to build one for a while.
No joke. We had wings in our garage for years. Thankfully, he sold them after we got married. He realized this was not the time for airplane building. But, I think he has a grand master plan:
First, make people.
Then, make the people obsessed with airplanes.
Finally, enlist them to help build the aircraft.
Muah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! (can you hear his hands rubbing together?)
Well, step one and two are done. Join me as I give you a museum tour of my son’s airplane collection, strongly influenced by a grown-up who plays with them just as much as he does. One might say my little boys are spoiled with all these cool planes, but I blame their Dad (and Grandma, because she’s an easy target- love you, Mom!).

Kira commented on Mar 04 12 at 3:38 amDon’t worry, it’s only about to get WORSE with Disney’s release of “Planes”. Wow. They’ll be begging you to get every. single. plane. from that show. Good luck! :) We will probably be following close behind though. My kiddos are all obsessed with “Cars” and we own probably a small part of the Disney/ Pixar company because of how many we have. Ha ha!
