The 7 Silliest Things My Toddler Has Cried Over
YOU ARE ALL A HOT MESS.
Whew, that felt good to just get it out there. I love my little dude to death, but WOW, can he be irrational. Granted, I do not expect him to be solving riddles and having rational thoughts quite yet, but there are times where I just want to say, “WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? WHAT ARE YOU CRYING ABOUT? THIS IS A FIRST-WORLD PROBLEM.”
He wants a cup of milk, so you hand him a cup of milk and next thing you know, that cup is five feet on the other side of the room with a toddler wailing, “WHY DID YOU GIVE ME THAT CUP?!”
With the help of some fellow mom friends who’ve also been there, I’ve rounded up 7 silly things toddlers have cried over. Please tell me you relate to this or I might go cry in a corner.

Kristin commented on Jan 03 12 at 4:43 pmI was on the phone with a fellow Mommy friend today and her toddler started hysterically crying because he peed in his own eye. When she asked him what he meant, or how that could possibly happen he explained that while pooping, he peed up into his own face and it got in his eye. Funniest overheard conversation ever!
Kelli commented on Jan 03 12 at 5:13 pmMy daughter doesn’t really cry too often about nonsensical things, but she does cry if gloves don’t fit her hand the way she wants them to. She always tries to put on my gloves or her daddy’s, and then cries because they’re too big/her hand is too small. I try to hide all the gloves from her…it’s a sad, silly truth. haha.
marrissa commented on Jan 03 12 at 6:05 pmThe pee one is so funny my daughter will cry that she cant find her blankie when she is sitting on it i just want to yell its under your butt
Teena & Troy Morton commented on Jan 03 12 at 8:12 pmOur 3 year old cries when we are dressing him. every time… from his shirt tag and pants “these aggribate me” and when we get to the socks there is always “something wrong with them” and the shoes “my hoos are boddering me” If we let him run around in his underoos all day, we’d all be happy. Recently we have been having better luck with sweatpants and basic tops. No buttons, zippers, hoods, and he wants to wear his “hip hops” (flip flops) with everything
Katie commented on Jan 04 12 at 10:11 amWill cries because of that part at the beginning of Cars where the screen repeated goes black while McQueen says, “Speed… I am speed.” He screams at me to leave it alone and let him watch McQueen. He thinks I’m turning the TV off. I show him that my hands are no where near the remote. I will sometimes even leave the room to avoid the false accusation, but it doesn’t matter. The screen is black for a second. He is missing a part of McQueen’s race. And it is ALL MY FAULT.
dpagea commented on Jan 04 12 at 2:17 pmi feel so less alone now. thank you! my toddler usually cries about which spoon or fork I give her to eat with. It is NEVER the one she wanted, neither is the second, third, or fourth one I give her. I’ve started keeping several in a plastic cup and putting it on the table to let her decide. Several always end up on the floor this way though too. Thank goodness for our dishwasher.
Apparently P commented on Jan 04 12 at 5:09 pmI love the one about wanting to watch a video of herself crying! Our daily irrational cry comes when we are getting him dressed in the morning. For some reason my son hates to have pants put on – “No pants mommy, no pants!” followed by sobs! Apparently I have a future nudist on my hands…
Aniz commented on Jan 04 12 at 11:35 pmEvery time Thomas the Train comes on tv my 3 year old rushes from the family room shrieking and crying- every single time. He can watch ads about Thomas and see Thomas toys with no problem but the actual program sends him into hysterics. It is the most bizarre thing I have ever seen. I try to take deep breaths and pray for age 5.
n commented on Jan 05 12 at 2:35 ammy son wants to get dressed by himself, and if you want to fix the socks he put on the wrong way, he will throw a fit! he will take it off again and put it on the wrong way again. i’ve learned to leave it alone!
Jenna commented on Jan 05 12 at 3:08 pmWe have almost a daily meltdown because she got the blue plate instead of the dinosaur plate or vica versa… even when she asked for the one that I gave her. We also have the putting on clothes meltdown so unless we’re going somewhere the kid just stays naked.
Joa commented on Jan 07 12 at 5:14 amWow sometimes I feel so guilty and really bad with myself because my 10 moths old boy cried out fir no reasons and I cant userstand why??? Yesterday he cried because I didn’t sit on the floor to watch tv while I was sitting on the sofa lol then I went to the floor but that was good enough… Sometimes I cry myself.because I don’t know how to deal with it ?? Xx.
Sunshine Elle commented on Jan 07 12 at 5:17 pmI just shared this story on facebook: my 2 year old cries everyday because the rainbow is gone (there’s a cut glass window at the top of the front door that creates rainbows on the wall) she looks at it and gets super happy, puts her hands in the rainbows, and tries to eat them. then when the sun goes down 20 minutes later she gets so sad and say’s mommy the waynebow’s goooone’. her cry is heartbreaking and i feel bad because she is really hurt. but i laught cause it’s funny as hell. then i have to show her pictures of rainbows for ten minutes to get her to calm down
Kara commented on Jan 28 12 at 6:50 pmMy toddler is going to be 19 months old Feb 1st. She threw a fit last night because I wouldn’t eat any more of the popcorn she had stuffed in my mouth. Also, some days we can just look at her the wrong way and she does the “sad face cry” where she makes this huge pout and then wails to a cry. It’s really kind of funny when it isn’t about something serious. Terrible parents? LOL
Jen M commented on Mar 20 12 at 4:50 pmThis morning, my hubs was upstairs changing the baby’s diaper, and I was downstairs making breakfast. My 2 year old came downstairs SOBBING. Like gnashing of teeth kind of grief.
“Awww what’s wrong, punkin?”
“I MISS MY DADDY SOOOOO MUCH!!!!!”
{ smh }
Anna commented on Apr 06 12 at 10:39 pmI am laughing so hard at these. My toddler is pretty even-keeled overall, but for some reason breakfast throws him for a loop. We’ll set before him a plate of his favorite food – ex. a waffle with peanut butter, strawberries, and/or a scrambled egg – and without reason he’ll yell no and scream in disapproval. Once we coax him to take a few bites he scarfs it down happily. Such a mystery.
