Toddler Times
6 Things You Wish You Could Say To Your Toddler
You know those days. We all have them.
You wake up too late (or maybe too early?) & the entire family falls out on the wrong side of bed. Milk spills everywhere at breakfast, the pancakes burn, the dog is barking madly, & maybe you have guests coming over in an hour but dirty laundry still piles on the couch cushions. To top it off, your toddler is poking you in the bum with a toy golf club asking, “But why, mommy? Why? WHY? WHYYYYY?!?!?!!!!!” & you want to turn around & go “WHAT?!?!”
Think of The Hulk…that’s me on those bad days & I’m two-point-five seconds away from yelling, “YOU WOULDN’T LIKE ME WHEN I’M ANGRY.”
But.
I take a deep breath & use every ounce of maturity in my body (there’s not much, trust me) & calmly look my kid in the eye. “What, honey?” I say with exhaustion & defeat. That feeling where all the bluster falls out of me in one big WOOOSH & my doe-eyed baby looks up at me. “Cars?” he asks. I’m glad I didn’t snap at him…this time. But oh, the words that always threaten to spill out!
Oh, how we all think these unless you think your child farts like a unicorn.

Ciara commented on Dec 13 11 at 9:36 pmAMEN! I mentally tell my daughter to shut up several times a day. :) I love her to pieces, love her sweet voice, and love the adorable things that come out of her mouth. But after hearing it from the time she gets up until the time she goes to bed…sometimes momma needs some quiet!!
Alison@Mama Wants This commented on Dec 14 11 at 5:57 amI wish I could say to my toddler – FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS ELMO, STOP WHINING!!
OldMom commented on Dec 15 11 at 12:47 pmWhy not treat you children like the sentient beings they are and explain “Hey, honey, I know you have a lot of question (lots to say, songs to sing, etc.), but I really can’t answer you (listen to you) right now because I’m really tired (don’t feel like thinking, am feeling overwhelmed).”? How about you read (look at) a book quietly for a little while.
This doesn’t always work, but almost all of the time, my kids shut up long enough for me to get my sanity back.
Sam commented on Dec 16 11 at 9:30 ambecause i said so! something i thought i would never say to my kids, but do on a regular basis. also. i will do the “what?!?!?!!” after 67 momomomomomomom’s … but with 3 kids doing it plus the dog scrathing at my leg…yeah, i deff need a mommy time out, but that doesnt happen cuz the second i go into the cave of solitude (aka my bedroom) my house explodes.
Amy commented on Dec 16 11 at 10:04 amMy daughter went through a phase where every 2 seconds she asked “What’s dat?” while pointing to some vague item we drove past/walked past etc. I SO wanted to tell her to shut up already…but the good momma in me answered everytime…in those mose exasperated voice most likely.

“For goodness sakes, Child. SIT DOWN.”
Aniz commented on Jan 04 12 at 11:41 pmI loved Shaina’s quote- I so identify. @OldMom- that is really good advice and I really try to do that, but my son, after that wonderful speech would ask me- why are you tired? (ans: because I’ve been working hard) Why are you working hard? why?why? why? mommy and so on for about 10 mins straight until Mommy just wants to lie down in a quiet room for a year or so :)
