The Broom is My Toddler’s Favorite Toy (Plus 9 Others from Her Top List)

FavoriteToddlerToys JV 00 200x300 The Broom is My Toddlers Favorite Toy (Plus 9 Others from Her Top List)My toddler has a broom fetish. She also really likes the mop and the dustpan, but the broom is her favorite.

As any parent knows, the toys from the toy store are not always what get played with the most at home. Sometimes it’s the roll of tape from the desk, the box of band-aids, or yes, the broom, that get the most mileage with the three and under set.

Here is a list of my two-year-old daughter’s current favorite “playthings.” (And I’d love to hear the favorites in your house!)

A broom and dustpan
The broom set has been one of the top toys in our house, first when my older daughter was a toddler, and now with my two year old.

In addition to the toys and non-toys listed in the slideshow above, my daughter also really likes the following:

  • She loves, loves, loves band-aids. And I have to admit I usually buy an extra box when I’m at the store just to indulge her. (Or maybe it’s to indulge me. They are inexpensive, yet buy so much happy busy activity!)
  • Art supplies. Her favorites are playdough, markers, and paint. She draws everyday and paints whenever I let her. Click here for a list of my top 11 favorite toddler art materials.
  • Rocks and leaves and other nature items. Especially anything little that she can carry easily or put into her (or my) pockets.

What are your toddler’s favorite toys? Or if your children are older, what were their favorites when they were little? I’d love to hear!

My 3 yr old loves his broom too – anything from a horse to Harry Potter broom to the “Allelulia broom” (“cross” from church processional)

My 18 month old loves cotton balls, the telephones, Legos (I know, choking hazard), slides of all kinds and anything she can climb on (chairs especially). Also, many of the things you mentioned above. Oh, and her favorite, standing on a chair with a thin stream of water into the sink with some bubbles (or in the backyard with a little bowl of water and a cup), she could do that for hours! Glad to see you back Jean!

*2 1/2 year old LOVES the broom. She gets it out if I’m sweeping or not. (She doesn’t have her own … I should put that on the Christmas list).
*Bubbles
*Stickers
*Coloring whatever mom is currently writing on.
*Stroller of course.
*She is fascinated with my hair straightener too, but that’s locked up so she only gets to use it when I’m done with it and after it’s cooled off.
*Anythign that looks/acts like a purse

My infant (11 months) loves the potty!!! YUCK!!!!!!!!!!! and my pusre

@Going Green Mama Yes! Brooms are great (and versatile)!

@Molly Water play is a favorite here, too! Standing at the sink with water and possibly a cup/spoon/soap/sponge will keep her entertained for a LONG time.

@Christine You should totally put a small broom on the Christmas list. :) And what you said about your 2yo coloring on whatever you are writing on? That happens here, too.

My baby is a stick-man. Any and all sticks (drumsticks, unsharpened pencils, spoons) are fair game. Check him and his sticks out here:

Brooms and cleaning works are super popular in the preschool classroom too!

@Lisa They all have their own thing, don’t they?!

@Leslie Love those photos. I took a look at your previous posts, too, and especially like the red wagon being used to haul rocks and firewood. Good work for a little person!

Favorites with my 2 year old little guy are
^ the broom
^ any kind of box, if he can fit in it that’s all the better for him!
^ laundry baskets
^ any outdoorsy thing, I am constantly finding rocks, sticks, and leaves through out my house! (but I can’t say much I’m pretty sure I still have a box of rocks hidden away somewhere that I collected over the years, lol)
^ money, especially change…I think he just likes to hear the sounds of it jingling in his pocket. If he has the choice he would rather have any type of change then a bill.
