Celebrate a Green Halloween!
We all want to go green and do our part, right? Right! The good news is that we can go green even on Halloween!
Halloween planning is in full force in the Mommyfriend household and naturally, costumes are my kids’ first priority. Will BooBoo be Spiderman (again) or a Power Ranger?
Who knows, but I do know this:
Our family will be participating in the National Costume Swap Day!
Ever heard of it? Lemme tell you all about it!

The National Costume Swap Day is an event taking place Saturday, October 8th all over the country! It’s so easy to join, click here to find a costume swap near you and get swapping! If you can’t find one, you can organize one!
It’s super easy to host a swap and there is no cost to register. A costume swap is a community building activity and of course, in these challenging times, a great way to save families money – I’m all for that! New swaps will be registering every day right up until Halloween, so there’s plenty of time to get started.
Why swap?
- Swapping even half the costume kids wear at Halloween would reduce annual landfill waste by 6,250 tons (that’s equal to the weight of 2,500 mid-size cars)!
- Costume swaps not only mean less resources are used to make new product, it also means less packaging, less transportation of the product and less waste (from products being trashed as they sadly often are!).
- The cost. Halloween costumes can be pricey; a costume swap can save you money while helping the environment! Win win!
Costume swapping is just the beginning; there are plenty more ways to celebrate a green Halloween!
