Make a Kitchen Table Playhouse with Playsilks
We turned the kitchen table into a super easy playhouse the other day with things we had around the house. Namely playsilks, clothespins, and wire. It went up quickly and became the perfect play space for the afternoon — the girls played, ate their snack, and read stories together in it. And when it was time to get ready for dinner, the whole thing came down easily.
Here’s how we made it:
We tied our coated wire — from the dollar bin at Target — tight around the top of the table, under the lip. (You could also just use string.) Then we used clothespins to attach our playsilks and scarves to the wire. My older daughter did most of the work while the toddler played peekaboo with the playsilks.
We’ve made other playhouses in the past. There’s the one that I sewed to fit over a table. It’s pretty fancy — not a whip-up-in-five-minutes kind of fort. We still set it up at times, but don’t have the space to leave it out permanently. Then there’s the “tent” we hang from the ceiling. And, of course, there’s always fabric (or playsilks) draped over chairs.
We don’t always have playhouses set up, but love the imaginative play that usually ensues when we do. And the more temporary, the better, it seems.
