Cash, Check or Charge?

I can physically see how much money is left to spend each week. Plus, I truly believe that using cash is the best way to teach kids about money.

It’s just so much easier to pull out the debit card at checkout and avoid a trip to the bank.

Credit cards aren’t always bad. There are cash back offers, special discounts, and reward programs available with various credit cards. But, they aren’t the choice for us right now as we work to eliminate debt. The real problem with credit — and debit cards — is that it’s too easy to spend money without a thought to where it’s going.

I guess that leaves me with personal checks!

Of course, we write checks for a few of our bills. But, I’ve also found that writing checks can keep my spending under control at the store. There’s something about physically writing the amount that makes you stop and think about it. Plus, I use duplicate checks so I don’t have to keep track of receipts to know where my money went — a copy of every expense is right there in my checkbook.

Besides, personal checks are too fun & cute to give up!
