The New Home Ec
House Tour: Sarah Thompson
Sarah lives with her family in Utah. They just added the sweetest baby to their family of three, so now they are a family of four. I’m really excited to share her home with you.
Tell me a little bit about your family..
I grew up in a small Utah town and my husband is from Orem, which is where we live. My husband does a little bit of everything and right now he is managing the apartments that we live in. We have a 2 year old named Oscar and a 2 month old named Pepper and we are so in love with them.
How do you make a house a home?
I think by making it feel comfortable and lived in. I’m a clean freak but I also let my kids make a lot of messes. I figure I can always clean it up later. I just don’t want to be that mom that is always saying ‘no’, and I don’t want to regret not letting things go that aren’t important.
How long have you lived in your home?
We moved here a few months before Oscar was born.
Did you have to renovate?
Unfortunately because we live in an apartment we can’t paint or change a lot. Luckily the place we live in is really new and quite nice although not at all my style. I hate granite and all the counters are granite. I hate tan and the carpet and walls are shades of tan. So to help I try and put a lot of color in the furniture and decor.
How do you approach decorating?
I find a lot of inspiration online through blogs and then I try the ideas I like. I make most of my decorations and restore most of my furniture. I love having a project and usually have a few going on at any time.
What is your favorite space/piece in your home?
I really love being in both of my kids bedrooms. I guess I just worked so hard on them and love all the little vintage finds. I love Oscar’s dresser because it was my grandma’s. And I love the books above Pepper’s crib along with the art on her wall made out of toilet paper rolls. They were so fun and easy to make and they look so different from how they started.
