I’m not sure what spurred my love of secret passages first. Maybe reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe or any mystery novel that involved pulling a book to open a door. Or it could have been that episode of Saved by the Bell where they participate in that fake murder mystery. Whatever it was, my love is strong and I have big plans to build my own in the future – preferably involving a bookcase.

The hubby and I have been playing the tooth fairy for nearly 10 years now. We’re on our last leg of the journey, as our youngest lost her first tooth just last week — is there anything cuter than that toothless grin?! — and she is thrilled to show off her tooth fairy money to anyone who will listen.
I still remember how clueless we were the first time around. How do you get the tooth out from under the pillow without waking the child? (Very, very carefully.) What if we forget? (We did.) How much should the tooth fairy leave? (Depends.)

No question, 2011 was a beautiful year for film. The Artist, a nod to classic Hollywood, brought silence — and black and white — back to the silver screen. George Clooney, not too shabby himself, nabbed a Best Actor nomination for his role in The Descendants, set in Hawaii. And while we weren’t entirely sure what The Tree of Life was about, we could sit back and watch it for hours. (And we did.)
This year’s Best Picture nominees took classic themes and made them fresh — and we don’t think it’s a coincidence that we’re celebrating them so close to spring cleaning time. Why not follow their lead to give your home a movie-inspired makeover? These looks will have you thanking the Academy. — Amanda Green

With the new Lorax movie coming out about the classic story from Dr. Seuss, we’re having fun getting crafty to celebrate. We’ve made a fun Truffula Tree frame and a Bar-ba-loot snack. Today we’re making a fun furry hand puppet, perfect for little ones to act out the character.
My kids are saying, “I speak for the trees” all over the house with this puppet! SO fun.

Earlier this month we brought you 25 Adorable Nurseries That Inspire. Oh boy, were there many of those to choose from. I think I spent a good couple of extra days just looking at all the different styles. Creating that list got me thinking, I wonder what beautiful kids rooms there are out there.
