Once upon a time a man whipped out his camera and recorded his one-year-old son Charlie biting his three-year-old brother Harry’s finger. There was tears, there was the element of surprise, and there were cute kids. All the elements of a hit. And in this case a very financially successful viral hit called simply, “Charlie bit my finger — again!”

This 57-second long clip has been viewed close to 400 million times, has warranted over 600,000 comments and has made- get this – over $160,000 in online ad revenue for the parents.

Many parents (present company included) think they’re clever when they take the same staged photo of their baby once a month for, say, the first year of life.

But you want to read what’s really clever? A twentysomething year old woman took a picture of herself every day for four and a half years (between Sept. 29, 2006 and May 12, 2011) and then compiled them in sequence into a time lapse video.

The YouTube video (after the jump) of the girl only known as madandcrazychild links to a blog site, where she simply writes: “my face has grown out of the front of my head since birth. there seems to be very little I can do about it.”

"Just drop your dress a little bit and let me see your boobs."

Cutest grandparents ever. Seemingly best marriage ever. Seriously. It’s hard to figure you haven’t seen the couple from Oregon who everyone with an internet connection is talking about.

Just in case you were without power the last few hours, here’s the gist. 86-year-old Bruce Huffman and his wife, Esther, 79, recently bought their very first laptop computer with a built-in webcam.

Last month they sat down to try and make heads or tails out of the thing. They were attempting to make a video with the webcam, something their granddaughter had tried to show them a few days before. But if you’ve ever tried to teach a parent how to Skype or, hell, even just connect to the internet, you know how that little lesson probably ended. So Esther’s trying to figure out how to work the newfangled contraption while Bruce is amusing himself by looking at himself in the image on the computer.

As David Lohr at the Huffington Post writes, “The nearly three minute video captures Bruce making funny faces, singing, burping and at one point, during a moment of levity, he got a little flirtatious with his wife. “See how pretty your hair is?” he said. “Just drop your dress a little bit and see your boobies.”

“I was trying to figure out how to do the videos and didn’t know the thing was actually running,” Esther told The Huffington Post. “All the while, Bruce was kind of amusing himself because he was bored. He was being quite an actor.”

When the couple’s granddaughter later saw the video, she titled it “Web Cam 101 for Seniors” and uploaded it on YouTube. The rest is history. Continue reading »

Why is a crying baby funny?

I get while some videos go viral. A cute kitten doing some funny. A cute kid doing something funny.

OK, I don’t really get why some videos go viral and others don’t. I have tons of video of my cute kid doing funny things and I’m fairly certain no one but our immediate family will watch the video, and even we get bored of them after a time. I’m sure there are studies on the reasoning of viral videos, but I haven’t seen them.

I’m curious why this video has gone viral. A 1-year-old baby is playing with a jack-in-the-box, and when it pops up, she’s so scared she starts crying. And people are eating it up.

Will you please watch and tell me why a crying, scared baby is funny, because I haven’t a clue:

It used to be that if you wanted to be a Broadway star, you had to get yourself to Broadway first. Now, especially for young actors, Broadway’s talent scouts and casting directors are increasingly coming to you.

The new production of Annie is holding an online casting call. Hundreds of kids have auditioned via videotape, submitting performances recorded in their living rooms far from the glitz of New York.

Online casting searches are a relatively new thing. Even when they’re not formally collecting audition tapes, though, casting directors are increasingly relying on the Internet to help them find new talent. That’s right, your homemade YouTube clips really might be sitting on a talent scout’s laptop right now.

Why she'd want to marry someone who so clearly doesn't want her is a different issue entirely

It’s not unusual to hear about men dragging their feet to the altar. But this might be the first documented case of a little boy kicking and screaming his way out of an engagement — about 13 or so years before he can legally marry.

Two elementary school-age kids have gone viral thanks to a YouTube video of them having a screaming match about getting married. She’s all for it. He’s not. In fact, he’s so against the partnership that he kicks, screams and cries while she calmly insists they will wed.

While the little boy might have some commitment issues, at least he’ll never be accused of leading her on.
