Ok, so I have a tendency to freak right out over every little thing. Admitted. And having kids, especially one with some asthma-ish problems, has made me more than a little germophobic and panicky over every sniffle.
Take that into consideration when I tell you I am majorly freaked out over swine flu. The vaccine just became available here, and the city I live in tells me they have no schedule for distributing it yet. Not to mention our pediatrician’s office keeps running out of the seasonal flu vaccine. Continue reading »
Swine flu — or novel influenza A H1N1, if you like — has taken the world by storm, and the CDC has warned Americans that we’re likely to see a resurgence as early as September when kids jump back into the germ pool (school).
Clinical trials for a vaccine have already started, but health officials aren’t just looking to inject healthy adults — they’re also trying the shot out on kids, too, to see if it’s effective. And some parents — hoping to avoid swine flu altogether — are more than happy to let researchers experiment on their kids.
The Associated Press is reporting that your kids may get the swine flu vaccine at school this fall. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is trying to sell school officials around the U.S. on the idea that the government might need “their buildings for mass vaccinations.” Continue reading »
