Parents, check your medicine cabinets, there is another recall of more over-the-counter Tylenol products.
In a statement, a unit of Johnson & Johnson said that it was conducting a voluntary consumer recall of one product lot of eight-hour extended-release caplets because of a “musty or moldy odor.” About 34,000 bottles are being recalled although the company says any health risk from the caplets is “remote”.
The company also announced it’s expanding a previous recall announced in January. Unlike the Tylenol caplet recall, the expanded recall, which involves 10 lots of other products, is being undertaken on the wholesale level and is not based on adverse events, according to the company. The government may take criminal action against McNeil Consumer Healthcare, the Johnson & Johnson unit that that recalled millions of bottles of liquid children’s Tylenol, Motrin, and other over-the-country pediatric medicines last month.
Sloppy quality control and a lack of corporate responsibility led to the recall, Dr. Joshua M. Sharfstein, the F.D.A.’s principal deputy commissioner, said at a congressional hearing on the issue yesterday.
The FDA said the company may face criminal penalties, product seizures or other sanctions, according to The New York Times. Continue reading »

Certain lots of infant’s and children’s Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl products are being recalled, the Food and Drug Administration said today.
McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a unit of Johnson and Johnson, is voluntarily recalling over 40 over-the-counter medications because some of them may contain more of the active drug ingredient than specified on the package. Others may contain inactive ingredients that may not meet internal testing requirements; and others may contain tiny particles, according to McNeil’s web site. Continue reading »

After voluntarily recalling a litany of children’s and adult mediation at the end of December, Tylenol manufacturer McNeil announced an expanded recall today that includes more children’s medications.
A recall alert issued by Tylenol will no doubt be sending parents scrambling for their medicine cabinet this week, so Babble has pulled together the details of what you need to look for while you’re there.
