It’s been nearly 30 years since I’ve been clean shaven. At first it was so that I wouldn’t be mistaken for a girl — not that that’s bad; it just gets confusing in the boy’s locker room — but for the most part it’s because I’m far too lazy to shave every day. And now, I’m not just lazy, I’m a trendsetter. Rather than shaving, it seems teenage boys are choosing to celebrate their new-found facial hair, even to the point of forming “beard clubs” at their school.
If you’re like me, you probably won’t get around to reading Gail Collins’s new book for a few more months/years. Instead, you have to settle for reading all the articles about and interviews with the author of When Everything Changed: The Amazing Journey of American Women from 1960 to the Present.
A study that attempts to explain why baby name popularity waxes and wanes would seem on the surface to be common sense: once a name becomes popular, no one wants it anymore.
