This is a new column on Strollerderby. Every week I’ll be highlighting the kid-friendly comic books that are hitting the racks on Wednesday, which is the day the new stuff comes in. But you knew that.
I get my weekly comic book fix at Midtown Comics (they’re not paying me to say that, but darn it, they should). A complete list of new items is available at their web site. You can also get them via home delivery, but personally I think it’s more fun to go to the store. Actually, comic books are one of the last items I regularly buy offline.
Here is a list of kid-friendly books this week, and also a few other items.

Bill Clinton succeeded in securing the release of Laura Ling and Euna Lee, the two Current TV journalists who were being held in North Korea. (There’s a joke to be made about the former President going to see two young woman in distress, but I won’t make it.)

The Senate voted to not build more F-22 fighter planes. (Aside: the way the photo at the right i cropped, doesn’t it kind of look like a giant metal duck?) In general, it sounds like the only Senators who wanted the planes built were from districts that would benefit in terms of jobs. Not unreasonable I guess, but $1.75 billion for 7 planes that many military folks feel we don’t need seems like a bad idea. Interesting subplot: one of the people who helped make this happen was none other than John McCain. He ran for President against Barack Obama. He lost. But he was still on board with this issue. The Star Trek Happy Meal.
A quick search reveals not one, but TWO television commercials for the McDonald’s Star Trek Meal. It appears that they were not technically called Happy Meals, but I don’t really care. That’s what I remember, and there are even web sites that call it the Star Trek Happy Meal. So there! (Clearly my maturity level has also warped back in time.)
