News Flash: Single Moms Like Sex, Too

Single moms are gettin' it on.
That how we got our babies in the first place, am I right, ladies??? A poll over at YourTango suggests that single moms are gettin’ it on, which is very reassuring news if you ask me. 25% of the women who responded are single or divorced moms who have had non-love/non-relationship sex and feel it’s positive to explore their sexuality. However, 13% of respondents said they don’t want sex without love and/or serious commitment, so they abstain.
Oh boy. 13% of you could be waiting a long time… Continue reading »
Is Sleep the New Sex?
Are you getting any? Sleep, that is.
Not me. Last night, I worked late, then stayed up to pack lunches, unload the dishwasher, throw in a load of laundry, and fill out some school paperwork. I looked at the stack of bills waiting to be paid, but decided to pack it in for the night, because I was already looking at sub-six hours of shuteye. Then, in the middle of the night, my son needed me. Then, my daughter had a nightmare. And I played musical beds.
Newsflash: Moms aren’t getting enough sleep. And 67% of moms say that they would rather sleep than have sex.
According to a new survey conducted by the website Hybrid Mom:
“Moms don’t sleep. Not during pregnancy. Not after the kids are born. Not after they’re in school. And especially not after they start driving. In fact, a totally unscientific poll of mothers recently revealed that no mom sleeps until her kids are grown and out of the house. Part of the reason is that we’re good parents. We try to give our kids a clean home, clean clothes, and a modicum of attention. But let’s face it, sleep is the new sex, we all want more, and none of us are getting enough.”
Having Sex in a Post Baby World
It’s one of life’s great ironies. Sex brings about babies, which, in many cases, sucks the sex life out of even the most passionate couples. Suddenly man and wife turn into little more than Mom and Dad, negotiating their way through a sleep-deprived maze of burp cloths, onesies and those plastic, round dealies with the needle nose that suck baby boogers out of junior’s nose.
Sound familiar? Odds are it probably does.
At least according to a study conducted by the University of Denver. It reported that 90% of new parents aren’t as satisfied with their relationship as they once were. Baby Talk Magazine conducted a survey which revealed that only 24% of new parents are satisfied with their sex lives.
But the people at Good in Bed want to change that. They just published the e-book, Sex and the Baby Years, by Dr. Hilda Hutcherson, OBGYN, which is designed to help couples “babyproof their relationships.” They’re allowing their readers to download the book for free through the end of the month thanks to help from the friendly folks at K-Y Brand, who, as you may know, make jelly. Only not the kind for your peanut butter. Continue reading »
Spice Up Your New Year’s Resolutions
Sure, you could resolve to lose those extra pounds or stop smoking or eat more healthy food; those are all excellent goals and I support them wholeheartedly (and I’m working on that first one myself). If, however, you want to add a little something to spice up your list of resolutions for 2010, why not start the year off by joining Kristen Chase, a.k.a. the Mominatrix, in a little Sexual Resolution? For the entire month of January, she’ll be doling out daily sex-related assignments just for moms.
Survey Time: What Happened to Your Sex Life After Kids?
Feminist editor/writer/researchers Jennifer Baumgartner and Amy Richards want to know if/how your sex life changed after you had kids, and they’ve made a short little anonymous survey to ask you about it. But they left out a few key questions.
They say they modeled the questions after Betty Friedan’s 1957 survey of Smith college alumni that became The Feminine Mystique, which I take to mean that they’re hoping this will generate book-worthy material. Combining two such hotly debated topics as parenting and sex ought to generate something interesting, and being a bit of a survey junkie, I happily filled it out.
