A new study out of Aberdeen Maternity Hospital found that women who were born early are more likely to go into early labor than women who were born full-term.
Researchers reviewed data from 22,343 pregnancies in Scotland that included 13,845 daughters born to 11,576 mothers over a 60 year time period. Defining preterm as births between 24 and 37 weeks and including only singleton births, researchers discovered that women who were preterm had a 60 percent increased risk of early labor. That risk went down to about 50 percent in pregnancies that followed.
Surely, we’ve all come across people who we’ve thought maybe shouldn’t have been parents at all — I’m quite certain most people feel that way about me. And we’ve all done really stupid things on occasion. But are there people who shouldn’t be parents simple because they aren’t smart enough? Social workers in Fife, Scotland seem to think so.
