Kids of the 80s –be warned. Your youth is being repackaged, reformed and resold and will be marketed to your own children. With new fangled versions of classics like Scooby Doo, MTV’s upcoming Teen Wolf series and now to add to the nostalgia is a new animated film featuring everyone’s favorite blue pals – The Smurfs. A sneak peek of the new Smurf look and feel was disseminated via an ad for the upcoming release- which won’t be out until December 2010.

The headline on Wired uses the word “may”, as in “things your kids may never know about.” But I’m feeling old and cynical, hence the more affirmative language.
For example, does anyone really think that their kids will ever listen to music “on an audio tape using a personal stereo”? Heck, even the name “Walkman” is barely known these days, and it used to be like Scotch tape or Xerox copies. I had several “Walkmen” but never an actual Sony Walkman. Continue reading »
