Anyone who says the health care system isn’t broke never said that to the face of a young child who lost his mother. Marcelas Owens, whose mother died of pulmonary hypertension, is taking his message straight to congress.
“The health care system is broken, and it caused my mother’s death,” Marcelas said in an interview on MSNBC.
Quick anecdote. I was in an airport recently and saw the following. (What, you don’t follow me on Twitter? For shame.) In the lounge, there were two TVs. One side was showing CNN, the other one had Fox News. The two sides were separated by a low partition made of an opaque glass. Each side could see the other, but not clearly, and you could only hear the TV report that was nearby. Sound familiar?
Anyway, Representative Mike Pence (Republican from Indiana) said on Fox News that he hopes “the recession is leveling off” and that “Slowing the rate of descent is encouraging…But I really believe that it’s in spite of the prescriptions of Washington, D.C.” Continue reading »

Frank McCourt, the author of “Angela’s Ashes“, died on Sunday of cancer at the age of 78. “Angela’s Ashes” wasn’t published until he was 66; the L.A. Times describes him as a “late bloomer” of a writer.
Paula Abdul may not be back on “American Idol” next year. Oh. OH! Quelle horror. Seems she is “hurt.” And “angry.” Also very, very stupid. Two words Paula — Brian Dunkelman.
