A difficult decision.
A Filipino woman has acknowledged giving birth to a baby on a Gulf Air flight from Bahrain to Manila “and then leaving him in the trash on the plane,” according to the Associated Press. The nearly seven pound baby survived thanks to a security guard, who found him (still attached to the placenta) just before he might have stopped breathing.

Is there anything you can’t do on the Internet? You can order a pizza, pick your hairstyle, and even find the love of your life. And these days, it turns out, you can even be a hero without having to leave the comfort of your parents’ basement. In fact, a 17-year-old girl from England managed to foil the rape of a five-year-old North Carolina girl, thanks to the internet.
In China, an unnamed 9-year-old schoolgirl gave birth by C-section to a 6lb. baby boy. The father has not been identified but authorities are very interested in finding his as sex with those under the age of 14 in the girl’s province comes with an automatic rape conviction.
The girl’s situation seems common in China. A hospital in China’s largest city, Shanghai, recently said that about 30 per cent of abortions were on school-aged girls.
Dr. Earl Bradley, a pediatrician who runs BayBees Pediatrics in Lewes, Delaware, has been arrested and charged with 33 felony counts including at least eight counts of first-degree rape. Other charges may be forthcoming, and one prosecutor said there could be as many as 100 victims. The abuse appears to have gone on for years, with victims as young as a few months old.
The other day, a coworker, knowing that my kids do not watch scary or violent films and that we eschew excessive competitiveness, said I was raising marshmallows. While I disagree with him for a number of reasons, he is correct in that I am doing my best to raise kids who don’t find violence amusing or acceptable. That’s why, when I came across an article about the recent gang rape of a 15-year-old Richmond, California girl, I found it especially interesting.
