According to a psychologist testifying in the federal case challenging the constitutionality of California’s Proposition 8, same-sex parents are just as good as their mixed-gender counterparts. That’s not just one man’s opinion, however. It’s the finding of more than a hundred studies on the subject and the official opinion of the American Psychological Association and seven other professional organizations. And based on my own personal experiences, I have to agree.
Just when the Prop 8 mess couldn’t become any more mystifying, the news that Prop 8 creator Frank Schubert is an uncle to two queer spawn is making us go “huh?”
Schubert apparently took a page out of the Cheney playbook when he decided to ignore the shining example in his own family of how gay relationships can work well and launch a campaign to keep them from ever gaining legality. Continue reading »
The Huffington Post has posted a delightful slideshow called “The Funniest Protest Signs of 2009.” A few of the highlights include “Thank You, Fox News, For Keeping Us Infromed” and “Gay People Can Quote the Bible, Too,” under which is written, “A marriage shall be considered valid only if the wife is a virgin. If the wife is not a virgin, she shall be executed (Deuteronomy 22:13-21).” Continue reading »
Doug Manchester, the California businessman “who helped finance the 2008 fight against same-sex marriage in California” is getting a divorce, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.
The paper says that the divorce could “complicate Manchester’s finances” and possibly give him trouble in a major development project on the San Diego waterfront. Continue reading »
