It took a Texas jury less than 30 minutes to reach a sentence for polygamous sect leader Warren Jeffs. Life in prison. That’s what he gets for sexually assaulting two underage followers he took as brides.
Life. In. Prison.
YES! If the devil ever walked the earth he would probably choose to be Warren Jeffs. The man is pure evil. He is a pedophile and child molester of epic proportions. Thousands of young girls have been victimized because of this man’s lies and brainwashing. Thousands of young men have been exiled from their homes because of this man.
Working as a news producer in Salt Lake City, Utah for nearly a decade, I witnessed first-hand the destruction this man has caused to so many. Finally, FINALLY he will no longer have a stranglehold on those polygamous communities bordering that straddle the border between Utah and Arizona.
So what was Jeffs’ reaction when the verdict was read?
A loophole in the law will likely let a man accused of sex crimes to escape the possiblity of prison and be set free without ever standing trial
A man facing nearly two dozen charges of child sex abuse in Salt Lake City will likely be set free because of a loophole in the criminal justice system.
Lonnie Hyrum Johnson, a man previously convicted of raping a teenage girl, has been charged with rape, sodomy and aggravated sexual abuse of a child for acts he allegedly committed against a family member and another child over a 5-year period.
However, doctors say he’s not mentally competent to stand trial and yet at the same time, say he also poses no danger to society. So instead of facing life behind bars — each charge is a first-degree felony that carries a life sentence — he is expected to go free on Thursday afternoon following a hearing.
E-books might be the wave of the future, but for New Jersey, it’s old school books on tape that are making the difference. That’s because the voices on those tapes are prisoners.

About two-thirds of the country’s juvenile inmates suffer from at least one mental illness. And yet the State of New York, which incarcerates around 800 youths at any given time, does not have even one full-time psychiatrist working in juvenile prisons.
The implications of this abysmal lack of mental health care are clear: kids who might be healthy members of society with adequate treatment could easily spend their lives in out and out of jail. Continue reading »

With a beer in hand, and possibly a surely attitude, 4-year-old Hayden Wright escaped his home, wandered the streets, then broke into the neighbors house to steal their Christmas presents.
Hayden’s mom, 21-year-old April, says she doesn’t know how the boy got beer and got out but she’s just glad he’s okay and says it won’t happen again.
It gets stranger.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, there were 115,779 women in prison as of 2008. Of those women, most are single mothers. So what becomes of a child whose only parent is serving time? At the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville, OH, babies are serving time with their mothers.
The idea for the program came from former Ohio state Rep. Cheryl Winkler and Barbara Turner, a former nurse convicted of prescription drug offenses. Pregnant at the time she was sentenced to prison in Marysville, Turner fought to have her baby’s father present at the birth. She won that battle, but her baby was not allowed to live with her in prison. But by 2001, the nursery program was established and there are currently 11 women living with their children at Marysville. Continue reading »
