Being pregnant can be hard. Maybe you sail through with a warm glow to your skin and a beautiful baby bump and no other side effects. Maybe.

That’s not the experience most of us have. We’re fatigued and nauseated. Food won’t stay down. We gain weight and lose mobility. We can have pelvic problems that make it hard to walk and dizzy spells that make it hard to drive.

But are we disabled when we’re carrying children?

Some people think so. There’s a movement afoot to extend the Americans with Disabilities Act to include pregnant women.

Before you leap up in outrage at the idea that pregnant women might be considered disabled, think about what the legal protection would mean.

Don't even sneeze on this woman. She might sue you for child suppor later.

Talk about “Being Pregnant”.

Gemma Potter, 23, is apparently meant to be pregnant, like, all the time.

As The Huffington Post reports, even though she’s attempted every method of birth control she could get her hands on (the Pill, condoms, the coil, progestogen injections, implant) Potter and her husband Glenn can’t stop getting pregnant.

Potter is currently pregnant for the seventh time IN FIVE YEARS.  This will be the couple’s fourth child as she’s had two miscarriages and one ectopic pregnancy. Continue reading »

Most jobs you can continue performing while pregnant. Bank teller, movie star, neurosurgeon, but some careers just aren’t conducive to being knocked up, like Mixed Martial Artists fighting. But being ‘with child’ evidently didn’t  slow down MMA fighter Cindy Dandois from wanting to hit the ring with MMA star Gina Carano.

Dandois was set to fight Carano on June 18th but was forced to pull out of the fight due to being three and a half months pregnant. But get this, Dandois – even though she was knocked up – still wanted to get into the ring! Continue reading »

Michelle Obama, looking remarkably NOT pregnant

So apparently there is a rumor making the rounds of the interwebs today claiming that Michelle Obama is knocked up, with a due date in late summer. Obviously, this is almost certainly untrue, and in fact, the source of the rumor can’t even be confirmed, much less any kind of actual, newsworthy source.

But it’s fun to think about a baby in The White House; after all, it’s been a while.  In fact, the last time we had a First Newborn was  half a century ago when Mrs. John F. Kennedy gave birth to baby John-John only two weeks after her husband was elected President.  The next time we had a First Family who seemed young enough to conceivably (heh ;-) become new parents was in 1992, when the Clintons rode into Washington.  Pregnancy and adoption rumors occasionally swirled around Bill and Hillary in those early years of his presidency, but of course, it never happened.  Chelsea remained an only child,

But this very thing DID happen to Britain’s First Family. In 1998, when Tony Blair was Prime Minister, and he and his wife, Cherie were already parents of three adolescents, Mrs. Blair turned up unexpectedly pregnant.  At age 45,  she gave birth to their healthy son, Leo.  The whole country was enthralled with her pregnancy, and there was great national excitement on the day Leo Blair was born, and when he was brought home to Number 10 Downing Street. Beyonce is Expecting

The internet is aflutter with the good news: Singer Beyonce Knowles and her rapper husband Jay-Z are going to be parents….which means another celebrity baby is on the way!

The 29-year-old singer was apparently surprised by the news that she is pregnant. Although she had wanted to complete another album before becoming a mom, she is excited that she’s in her first trimester of pregnancy, US Weekly reports. For some women, being pregnant is a wonderful experience.  In addition to the unparalleled thrill of creating a brand new human being, there’s all that glorious attention your condition brings.  People smile at you, give up their seats for you and go out of their way to acknowledge just how special you are.

Probiotics are microorganisms, such as bacteria or yeast, that are thought to improve health. While too much bacteria can make you sick, too little can make you more vulnerable to illnesses. While scientists are just beginning to understand all benefits of probiotics, previous research has found that ingestion of some probiotics by children may actually prevent eczema, a condition marked by itchy, irritated and swollen skin.

But new research indicates that the battle against eczema can begin before baby is even born.  When consumed by women during and after pregnancy, probiotics were found to reduce incidents of eczema in their children. Continue reading »
