38-year-old mom Lynn Middlebrooks Geter was arrested after she forced her 12-year-old son to kill his pet hamster with a hammer as a punishment for earning a bad grade.
Tiger, a friendly giant of a dog, has a head so big that he could probably swallow the family baby in one gulp. Fortunately for the baby (and for us), he’s got other things on his mind. He loves to hear baby squeal and giggle, and he’s figured out the trick to making that happen: Tickling.
The world would be a better place if everyone had a dog who knew how to tickle. This baby is having way too much fun.

Two hundred fifty dollars – that’s the going rate for euthanizing a hamster in Caroline Howard’s neighborhood.
Would you pay it? She didn’t.
Here’s what happened: Howard agreed to let her son bring home Cupcake, a hamster who also served as the first grade class pet. Some time later — hamsters only live to be about two or so — Cupcake suffered a stroke.
Despite the fact that selling small turtles as pets was banned in the U.S. in 1975, people are still getting them. And kids are still getting very sick from them.
The sale of small turtles was banned because they can carry salmonella in their feces, which can easily spread to people when the turtles are handled. The ban applies to turtles smaller than 4 inches in diameter because experts believe that kids are more likely to put those in their mouths than larger turtles. However, any infected turtle can spread the salmonella strain to other turtles during shipping, resulting in widespread contamination. That, say experts, is the likely explanation for a recent outbreak of turtle-related salmonella cases. Continue reading »
It’s a great tradition that, I’m sure, builds self-esteem and reinforces positive behaviours. “Two pupils from class one and two are pulled out of the hat each week to be a VIP,” says Chris Thompson, acting headteacher of Hallbankgate Village School in Northern England. The students “can wear their own clothes, are introduced to visitors to the school, and they are entitled to bring in their most precious possession.”
Sometimes, though, well-intentioned policies such as this can really come back to bite you. Consider Thomas Bell. When he was chosen, he decided to bring his most prized possession, a pet named Hallbankgate Dragon to share with his mates. It turns out that Dragon is a load of bull. Literally.
