PETA's new Thanksgiving campaign
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has a new vegan message for kids this Thanksgiving: “If you wouldn’t eat your dog, why eat a turkey?”
How do you feel about animal research now?
I like meat but I don’t like thinking about where it comes from. I know plenty of folks will tell me I owe the animals I’m consuming at least some thought if I’m insensitive enough to eat them, but the thing is that I’m not heartless and I do feel a little bad when it occurs to me that my burger once mooed, so I choose to block it out. It may not be right, but it is what it is.
I also don’t like to think that any medicine I take or makeup I use might have been tested first on an animal. While I’d prefer no animals were harmed in the process of bringing something to my medicine cabinet, since I don’t have a better solution to propose, I generally keep my mouth shut.
There are plenty of people who are adamantly opposed to animal research, but I wonder how they’re reacting to a new campaign that pits a rat against a little girl and asks which one should live.

GoDaddy might be the number-one Internet domain name company, but maybe not for long. CEO, Bob Parsons recently vacationed in Zimbabwe and while there, he embarked on an elephant hunt and posted a video of the ordeal when he got back home. Many people, including People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are calling for bloggers and businesses to shut down their GoDaddy domain service accounts.
The video contains captions that tell the story behind the hunt. According to the video, the elephants are destroying the farmlands. He said a local farmer asked him to hunt the elephants that were destroying crops on his farm and leading to growing hunger in the area. It looks like Parsons was all too happy to oblige from the photos taken immediately after the killing showing Parsons holding his shotgun as he stands proudly in front of the dead elephant. He says, “Each year I go to Zimbabwe and hunt problem elephant. It’s one of the most beneficial and rewarding things I do.”

A person in an elephant costume with a bloody bandage wrapped around a “wound” greeted parents coming to pick up their kids at a Pennsylvania elementary school yesterday.
Needless to say, many of the parents — and their children — were horrified by the sight of a bloody “elephant.”
Who was behind the demonstration? People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The group said that the idea behind the elephant’s appearance was to convince kids and their parents to boycott the Ringling Bros. & Barnum Bailey Circus, which will perform in Pittsburgh next month, according to UPI. As a committed vegetarian, I’m often offended by PETA’s shock tactics. While I’m grateful that the organization has done so much to fuel the debate about vegetarianism, there are plenty of strong, commonsense reasons to avoid factory farmed-meat without equating pigs to Holocaust victims.
