81-year-old Keith Holmes
A 12-year-old girl escaped a child predator in California over the weekend, and a persistent mother was able to help police track down the would-be kidnapper.
On Saturday, 81-year-old Keith Holmes asked the girl if she wanted a ride and the girl dismissed him, but he kept following her. A nearby mom took down the man’s license plate after she came to the aid of the girl and helped chase him away.

An 18-year-old student who is also a convicted sex offender has withdrawn from Yuca Valley High School in California.
Steven Holt had registered for classes on April 4, and controversy ensued when parents of other students at the school learned of his presence, and his past. Apparently (and understandably) they were less than thrilled with the fact that a sex offender would be allowed to mix with high school kids.
The school district sent home a letter to parents alerting them to the fact that Holt was convicted in Wisconsin of “sexually assaulting minors ranging from 15 to as young as 6, including at east one cognitively disabled minor.”
Despite his past transgressions, Holt still had a legal right to attend school.

A few months ago, a new toy was released that made my ten-year-old a little wistful for her younger years. She thinks she’s too old for it, but Mattel’s new Barbie Video Girl certainly caught her attention.
Perhaps you’ve seen it? She looks like a normal Barbie except for the fact that she’s got a real working video camera in her chest and a screen on her back. How cool is that?
According to the FBI, not cool at all. In a leaked memo linked at Jezebel, the FBI warns that this seemingly harmless toy could be a threat to children.
So, what could Barbie possibly have done to warrant that kind of warning? It’s the video camera, of course. In the wrong hands, it could be used to surreptitiously record child pornography.
A reviewer at Tech Crunch seems to have been the first to grasp the nefarious possibilities of a video camera hidden in a doll. In a video rant posted on the site last summer, Paul Carr goes off, saying the doll is “child abuse waiting to happen.”
Is there anything you can’t do on the Internet? You can order a pizza, pick your hairstyle, and even find the love of your life. And these days, it turns out, you can even be a hero without having to leave the comfort of your parents’ basement. In fact, a 17-year-old girl from England managed to foil the rape of a five-year-old North Carolina girl, thanks to the internet.
