Do mommy bloggers owe their kids more privacy?
What kind of privacy do we owe our kids? Especially we writers and bloggers who specialize in parenting and child-rearing topics? How can we be sure that what we say about them now, when they’re young, won’t come back to haunt them when they’re older and, you know, literate?
We can’t.

Last week brought us the now-infamous New York Times article snarking on mommybloggers. Dozens of mom bloggers weighed in with their own opinions, voices, and research, which PhD in Parenting rounded up.
Finally, mom bloggers got some good press. The Dallas Observer published an article titled “Moms Gone Wired” that explores the ways moms use blogs to connect with each other, learn parenting skills and influence media and corporations.
The New York Times set off a firestorm of criticism in the blogosphere this weekend with a snarky little piece titled, “Honey, Don’t Bother Mommy. I’m Too Busy Building My Brand“.
The article, written by Jennifer Mendehlson (herself a mommyblogger), skewers moms who blog for being too focused on the professional potential of blogging and not focused enough on…something else. Maybe the social aspects? Maybe their kids?
Likening mommyblogs to the Tupperware parties of our mothers’ day, Jennifer breezily mocks the women who gather at conferences like Mom 2.0 and Bloggy Boot Camp to learn “the latest must-have skill set for the minivan crowd.”
It’s the time of year when pregnant women gaze down desperately at their swollen bellies and ask: what kind of Halloween costume can I possibly wear in this condition?
Actually, the possibilities are pretty endless. Last year around this time, I wrote a post that offered up seven Halloween costume ideas for pregnant chicks (all of which are still valid … well, except for Bristol Palin). Now, in an effort to give women-with-child even more Halloween costume options, here is a brand new list for 2009, complete with 10 Oct. 31st ensembles that work perfectly when you’re knocked up. A couple of these are more effective as one-half of a couples costume, but most work as solo numbers, too. And none of them involve painting a target or a stop sign on your bare belly.

Anita Tedaldi has written much about her family of five biological daughters. Despite a gaggle of children, Tadaldi felt here was room in her and her husband’s lives to adopt an additional child. The South American boy, referred to as “Baby D”, had been found by the side of the road. If anyone needed a family, it was he.
But after a year and a half, Tedaldi returned him.
Okay, maybe that’s a little coarse, but you tell me. Tadaldi went on the “Today” show and cited the baby’s inability to bond with her as the issue.
Move over Heather Armstrong and all you other parenting pontificators, there’s a new mommy blogger in town. Jenna Jameson, yes that Jenna Jameson star of films such as Super Sexy Too, I Love Lesbians 10 and Jenna Uncut & Uncensored and author of the bestseller How to Make Love Like a Porn Star has decided to start a blog.
