If you live in the Los Angeles Area – “Carmageddon” is likely a phrase you wish you had never heard. It is being used to describe the semi-controlled chaos expected to accompany the shut-down of a portion of the 405 Freeway beginning tonight and lasting Monday morning. In many cities, this might not be a big deal, but in a city known for its traffic congestion, people are actually being encouraged to STAY HOME. In fact, the city has enlisted the help of the likes of Lady Gaga and Erik Estrada (you remember Ponch from Chips??) to encourage people to stay away. So now, “Carmageddon” deals (want to visit Las Vegas?) are popping up all over the place.

Single mom, fertilization enthusiast, would-be reality show star-you can add one more job to Nadya Suleman’s (Octomom) resume: swimsuit model.
Maybe that doesn’t seem out of the ordinary to you, maybe you see swimsuit modeling a natural next step to a controversial single mother of 37 kids. But maybe this will surprise you; she says she got back into swimsuit shape with no help at all. As in, no plastic surgery.
You may recall the landmark case of Boy Scouts of America et al. v. Dale, from 2000, in which the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the BSA, being a private organization, has the right to discriminate as it wishes, when it comes to its membership and its volunteer staff. Since that decision was handed down, the Scouts have indeed continued their policy of discriminating against gays and atheists. Since that decision, also, the Boy Scouts have steadily lost many special accommodations and benefits they once enjoyed. Now they’ve lost another.

Producers of “Expressing Motherhood” have opened submissions for a third show in the Los Angeles-area for the January 2010 show.
There’s still time to attend the show’s first-ever New York City performances, Sept. 24 to 26 at TADA! Theatre. There, a dozen or so moms will perform their original pieces based on their own experiences as moms. (We hear there’s a song about a minivan.) Go here for ticket information.

It was all so very nice when, after word came that Michael Jackson passed, the zeitgeist chose to remember the sweeter times. The less controversial, more moonwalking times.
If only it could have ended there.
The sordidness around Jackson’s death kicked up 1,000 notches when the LA coroner ruled the performer’s death a homicide yesterday.
Tests showed Jackson was administered propofol, a powerful anesthetic, which mixed lethally with two sedatives Jackson already had in his system.
Oregon mom Sarah Rose Dillard-Lubin is accused of adding morphine to her breastmilk after she pumped and then feeding it to her 2-month-old daughter. Why? To get the father to pay more attention to them. Continue reading »
