It’s a continual lament around our house — there are so few films that are suitable for young children. My mother-in-law likes to take her grandkids to the movies, but it’s hard to find ones that we feel are acceptable. Being animated doesn’t automatically mean a film is okay for the little ones. Even Disney films are, in our house, “for big kids” because of the violence and gender stereotypes. So when a state decides to offer a tax credit for “family-friendly” films being made there, it sounds like an idea long overdue.
No one is slamming pot here. Not today. Maybe pot’s not my thing, but I’m no narc. I’m no Agent of D.A.R.E. (but I so want to drive that van). So I bring you this story not as a condemnation of marijuana use, but maybe just a reminder that we should all have fun responsibility.
So when I tell you a 2-year-girl was found wandering around pantsless with her dad’s glass pipe in her toy purse, understand I don’t automatically blame pot. I blame the dad. Did I mention the daughter was also carrying an empty bottle of pain pills and the family rabbit?
It’s like Facebook for women who have abortions. Or not. Really, I’m not quite sure what the point might be of the Sooner State’s latest law. As of November 1, women who have an abortion will have to fill out a lengthy questionnaire, the answers to which will be posted on a public website. And while the claim is made that none of the questions ask for specifically identifying information such as name or address, it would appear that the first eight questions alone provide enough information to identify the patient in a small community.
