Good news today for future college students: Obama signed into law an overhaul of the student loan program that will make loans easier to get and more affordable to repay.
The changes are expected to make higher education more widely available to underprivileged youth, but will also cost jobs in the private student lending sector.

UPDATE: School officials say they won’t comment on the story until they meet with an attorney. Jeez, not so much as a “this is regrettable” or “more could have been done.” Teachers watched the abuse Prince received the day she took her life, and yet no mea culpa from the school. Arguably, bullying is a part of life for some kids. Tough as it is, no one expects a kid to die from bullying.
But that’s just what happened at a Massachusetts school.
In January, Phoebe Prince, 15, hung herself from a stairwell in her family home. A prosecutor claims the taunting and physical threats from nine teenagers pushed the young girl to take her own life. Share and share alike. Fifty-fifty. Half-and-half. Seems like a good idea, whether you’re a couple of kids at recess with a single playground ball or divorced parents figuring out custody of your kids. That’s what lawmakers in Tennessee think, anyway. House bill 2916 would require children’s time to be evenly divided between couples who cannot agree on a custody agreement.
According to my wife, my mother, were she alive today, would likely be hauling our kids off to church to be baptised — to which I responded that that would be the last time she saw them. To undermine a parent’s authority on something as important and fundamental as their religious beliefs is, in my opinion, grounds for terminating contact. Sneaking kids a cookie on a school night is something I can live with, but attempting to indoctrinate my kids into a belief set that I not only don’t subscribe to but actively oppose is untenable. While, for us, this is merely conjecture, there are many families where severing contact with the grandparents is in the best interests of the children. The problem is, in Indiana, the legislature wants to be able to overrule the parents.
Most Mommies and Daddies need a drink now and then. If Mad Men has taught us anything it’s good little boys and girls know how to mix dear old dad a good Bloody Mary. Whether you’re a drinker or a teetotaler, everyone has different rules when it comes to the combination of alcohol and kids. Some people are okay with having a couple glasses of wine while the kids are about; other won’t touch the stuff until the kids are snug in bed.

33-year-old Tanya Nareau of Mesa, Arizona was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly attempting to exchange her 2-year-old daughter for a gun. The trade was to be with a family friend who Nareau said would do a better job of raising the child.
