John Edwards Charged with Indictment: The $1 Million Baby Cover Up
John Edwards charm and charisma couldn’t get him out of this one. The two-time presidential candidate was indicted by a grand jury in trying to cover up not just the affair he had with Rielle Hunter but the baby born from their relationship.
Now that may sound like just a moral issue but it turns out that John Edwards spent over $925,000 -close to a million dollars – trying to keep Rielle and their baby secret. $925,000 that wasn’t his, he allegedly used illegal campaign contributions. There were six counts against Edwards: Continue reading »
The Rielle Hunter and John Edwards Affair: Teaching Kids the Cover-Up Can Be Worse Than the Crime
Sometimes the greatest lessons for kids can be plucked, unfortunately, from the day’s headlines. Today’s lesson? The cover-up is often much worse than the crime.
John Edwards cheated on his wife with Rielle Hunter. Baby Frances Quinn was born. That a healthy baby girl was born to a woman who presumably wanted a child was a good thing. That John Edwards cheated on his wife and family was a bad thing.
But that John Edwards subsequently lied to his family and the country about the affair and the baby was a bad, bad thing. In fact, it was so bad that he’s now facing a possible indictment for the extent of his involvement in a cover-up. This would not have happened if he had just owned up to his affair and out-of-wedlock child in the first place.
The Elizabeth Edwards Will: Too Little, Too Late?

Does not divorcing a cheating and lying spouse send the wrong message to the kids about what they should expect from their own future relationship?
There seems to be no small amount of thinly veiled glee in the media today with the news that Elizabeth Edwards omitted John Edwards from her will (“John Gets ZILCH!!!” screeched the headline on TMZ.com).
And many probably agree that receiving nothing was even more than he deserved. After all, he cheated on his wife, lied to her, the country and denied the existence of his fifth child for an amount of time too disgusting to comprehend.
But less than a month after laying their mother to rest, the children of Elizabeth Edwards are faced yet again with a very public reminder that her untimely passing is only one of many family tragedies they’ve had to endure over the past several years.
Elizabeth Edwards’ Will Names Guardian For Kids
Elizabeth Edwards made not a single mention of her estranged husband in a will she signed mere days before her death. Elizabeth Edwards lost her years long battle with breast cancer in early December, leaving behind three children.
She was raising two young children, Emma Claire and Jack. She had separated from presidential hopeful John Edwards in early 2010, after he admitted to fathering a daughter with Rielle Hunter during their affair.
Who will raise the kids now? Will they return to their dad, or go to live with big sister Cate, Elizabeth Edward’s older daughter?
Elizabeth’s will names Cate the children’s guardian in the event that they have no living parent. Their father is still very much alive, though.
Elizabeth Edwards’ Will Does Not Include Her Ex John Edwards

Elizabeth Edwards cut her ex John out of the will.
Everyone’s talking this morning about Elizabeth Edwards cutting her ex-husband John Edwards out of her will. (I’m not the only person on the Strollerderby team who feels ever-so-slightly pleased about that fact.) In giving her philandering ex the proverbial finger just six days before her death, Elizabeth Edwards stood up for women everywhere who’ve been cheated on, lied to and mistreated by a spouse.
On December 1, 2010, Elizabeth Edwards “bequeathed all of her possessions to her three surviving children, with her eldest daughter, Cate, named the executor of the will,” according to The Daily Beast. The Guardian reports that Elizabeth Edwards’ will reads, “All of my furniture, furnishings, household goods, jewellery, china, silverware and personal effects, and any automobiles owned by me at the time of my death, I give and bequeath to my children.”
This is all well and good, but why isn’t anybody agog about the gossipy tidbit I heard last night on Access Hollywood? Tabloids have suggested that John Edwards plans to violate Elizabeth’s dying wish by getting engaged to mistress Rielle Hunter. Continue reading »
Elizabeth Edwards’ Funeral: A Touching Tribute to a Life Well-Lived

Elizabeth and John Edwards with their children Jack and Emma.
The Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh, NC where Elizabeth Edwards’ funeral was held this afternoon was all dressed for Christmas, a happy accident and fitting tribute, as it was revealed that the mother of four loved decorating and shopping for the holiday. Indeed, Elizabeth Edwards was described by those who eulogized her as a middle-class warrior; a woman whose personality ran the gamut from tireless and caring advocate for those who are suffering to the average mother who could live on four hours of sleep with the help of Diet Coke and trips to the outlet mall.
Edwards’ friend of nearly 30 years, Hargrave McElroy, described Elizabeth as a sincere, caring person and an “avid listener to those who were touched by her story.” McElroy detailed the ways in which Elizabeth touched people as she traveled across the country, adding that her friend ”knew Target and TJ Maxx coast to coast.” McElroy depicted Elizabeth as “a pro at loving her family” and “at looking at the bright side,” someone who believed that ”we will become fulfilled in life when we know who we are and live through our genuine, authentic self.”
McElroy said, “Elizabeth never knew a stranger. In every new encounter Elizabeth recognized a new friend – even protesters.” As promised, members of the Westboro Baptist Church picketed near Edenton Methodist, the same church where Wade Edwards’ funeral was held 15 years ago, but were blocked from getting too close (as they have been at other funeral services they’ve tried to target recently) by a human chain of over 200 people hoping to protect Elizabeth’s friends and family from having to witness such hatred in their time of grief. Elizabeth Edwards Funeral: Public Welcome
Since she was so beloved by the public, it seems only right that Elizabeth Edwards’ funeral will be open to the public. The public funeral will be held on Saturday in Raleigh, North Carolina at 1 p.m. ET, CNN reports.
The public can also leave condolence messages and remembrances on the memorial web site. Guests are invited to share their stories. The web site says that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wade Edwards Foundation which benefits the Wade Edwards Learning Lab, a computer and learning center in Raleigh that provides services free of charge.
Edwards will be buried in a private ceremony at the Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh beside her late son Wade, who died in a 1996 car crash.
Representatives for the Edwards family said that it is unclear whether reporters and cameras will be allowed inside the funeral. Continue reading »
