Home movies sure have come a long way, no? Remember back in the old days when Dad flipped off the lights and cursed under his breath as he tried to fire up that impossibly cumbersome movie projector which was pointed to the bare spot on the living room wall? If not, then surely you remember the VCR numbers which constantly needed the tracking adjusted.
Now, thanks to handheld recording devices and YouTube, everything’s changed. So my kids watch our home movies on my MacBook Pro. But thanks to Animoto, they can now watch them on TV. And I won’t have to mess with burning a DVD to make it happen. Instead, all I’ll need is Animoto and a click of my mouse.

Nielsen recently conducted a survey among 6 to 12 year old children, asking them what they’re interested in buying over the next six months. (I didn’t know 6 year olds had such tremendous buying power. I guess the recession hasn’t affected piggy banks.) Their number one answer may come as no surprise to some of you, but it does to me. 31 percent of kids in that age bracket are hoping for an iPad, followed by a computer (of any kind) and an iPod Touch, both ranking at 29 percent.
According to Yahoo!, an iPod Touch starts at $229 for the 8GB version, and an iPad costs upwards of $500. I wouldn’t dream of spending that kind of money on a single item for my daughter (who’s only 5), and I only have one kid! Imagine parents of two or more trying to shower their kids with a high-tech Christmas? I can’t even imagine spending more than $250 total on my daughter’s Christmas presents, especially since I think I just spent that much on her birthday in October, including party supplies, food and gifts. Whether or not you’re one of the lucky ones to have an Apple iPad in your hot little hands after this past weekend’s release, chances are your kids — if they’re under the age of 10 — will end up with an iPad-like computer in the not-too-distant future. It may not be an actual iPad or even come from Apple Computer, but the odds are even that they’ll end up with a touchscreen computer in five years’ time.
In a move intended to appease women and protect children, Apple has banned all sexy apps from their App Store. Well, almost all of them.
If your are Playboy or Sports Illustrated, your bikini-clad applications are more than welcome in the App Store. But for everyone else, a new decency standard has been put in place that not only bans bikinis, but a whole host of other potentially arousing content. Continue reading »
