Texting Teens: Preferred Form of Parenting?

In an interesting story from The Coloradoan, a family illustrates how texting may not be so bad after all. As long as it’s not sexting or texting while driving, of course. You see, these parents use texting as a reliable and discreet source of communicating with their kiddos and they seem to be on to something big.

Morning News - Did Something Happen to Michael Jackson?
Don’t forget to tune in to Morning News Live today at 9:30am! I’ll be joined by Jeanne Sager and we’re discussing Obama, his kids, journalism, and whatever else comes up. Call in and say baba-booey! Or something more coherent if you prefer.
Apparently something happened on Tuesday. Michael Jackson. I think he’s an entertainer, and he died? Something like that. There was a big memorial service that the city of Los Angeles had to pay for (they’re “passing the hat” according to 1010 WINS). Here’s a clip of Mariah Carey doing her tribute thing. If you like that kind of thing. Continue reading »

11-Year-Old Smarty Pants Develops iPhone App
When I’m tooling around town, I like to daydream about get rich quick schemes. Besides winning the lottery, playing the market or getting a big old book deal, one of my most current and prevalent fantasies is of designing a best selling iPhone App. But you know what stops me - besides a great idea- not knowing how to do the programming. Did that get in the way of 11-year-old Owen Voohees? No way Jose. Continue reading »

iPhone Adds Parental Controls And Adult Content
Apple has approved a new iPhone app that features — ready for this? — nekkid ladies. (Governor Sanford might like this. Heh heh.)
Anyway, the app, creatively titled “Hottest Girls”, costs $1.99 and is apparently now available for purchase. The developer, Allen Leung, claims that it is “the first app to have nudity.” Continue reading »

Morning News - McCain Not Happy With Obama
So remember when I said that John McCain had backed off of his criticism of President Obama’s response to the Iranian elections? Not so much. On CSPAN, Senator McCain reiterated that President Obama should… well, here. Take a look. Continue reading »

Morning News - Chris Brown Pleads Guilty
We may never know exactly what happened between Chris Brown and Rihanna. Brown pled guilty to felony assault and received probation. Part of the deal involves keeping the details of whatever transpired between the former couple a secret. Somebody hit somebody that night, and one of the two people is a guy. I’m not saying I know what happened, but, well. You know what I mean. Anyway, I guess it’s over for now. Also part of the deal is that Brown is not allowed to have any contact with Rihanna (no email, no texting) and must stay 50 feet away from her.
Speaking of over, Jon and Kate Gosselin’s marriage is kaputsky. Put a fork in it. It’s over, Johnny. (Video clip below, in case you don’t get that reference.) Continue reading »

Morning News - American Reporters in Korea Sentenced
Let’s start with a “yes, Virginia, the world is still a scary place” item. Current TV reporters Laura Ling (sister of former View co-host Lisa) and Euna Lee were sentenced to 12 years of hard labor for sneaking across the North Korean border. Hillary Clinton is urging the country “to grant clemency” for the pair. It’s terrible that they’ve been sentenced, but I will say that sneaking into North Korea was a very dumb move. I hope the U.S. is able to get them out safely. I also hope no other young journalist does what Lee and Ling did. Continue reading »
