Billionaire Divorcees: Just Sayin’
I had a friend back in the day whose dad passed along this tidbit of advice: Son, it’s just as easy to fall in love with a rich woman as it is a poor one. Maybe even easier.
Of course, my friend always knew that his dad was just joking with his pithy little saying. Though, oddly, he really did wind up marrying an extremely wealthy woman. Oh. And he also ended up getting divorced from an extremely wealthy woman. At that point he became a millionaire divorcee. But he’s got nothing on the billionaire divorcees that the Huffington Post just detailed.
The Huffington Post Purchased by AOL, Arianna Huffington to Be Editor-in-Chief of Content Sites

Various components of the new Huffington Post Media Group.
When I got the email to my inbox this morning, I have to say, I was a little shocked. ”The Huffington Post has been acquired by AOL, instantly creating one of the biggest media companies in the world, with global, national, and local reach — combining original reporting, opinion, video, social engagement and community, and leveraged across every platform, including the web, mobile, and tablets.” It was signed by Arianna and the rest of the blog team (I’ve contributed various pieces to the site over the years) and mentioned that Arianna herself “will become editor-in-chief not only of HuffPost but of the newly formed Huffington Post Media Group, which will include all of AOL’s content sites, including Patch, Engadget, TechCrunch, Moviefone, PopEater, MapQuest and Black Voices.”
Other content sites run by AOL include Lemondrop, Urlesque, StyleList, WalletPop, PopEater and ParentDish, to name a few. Arianna wrote about the merger on HuffPo today, saying, “Tim Armstrong (AOL Chairman and CEO)… had something he wanted to discuss with me… We arranged to have lunch at my home in LA later that week…. Tim said he wanted to buy The Huffington Post and put all of AOL’s content under a newly formed Huffington Post Media Group, with me as its president and editor-in-chief.” They quickly drew up a deal and signed it yesterday – at the Super Bowl. Anthrax in Tide Detergent?
All that laundry piled up in the corner? Sorry, you’re going to have to do it despite today’s anthrax scare.
The white powder in your Tide box — or little sample bag? It’s soap, maybe a little stain fighter. But it’s most definitely not anthrax.
About.com’s Urban Legends guru, David Emery, debunks the story that had been circulating the internet. Continue reading »
You’re Getting Divorced? That’s Awesome!
Back in my 20′s, I loved a good wedding. What’s better than seeing one of your best buddies stepping up to the plate for his shot at a lifelong, love-filled brand of happiness with the woman of his dreams? Not to mention the receptions, which were usually off the hook, and teaming with lovely ladies, I might add.
Of course, if you’re going to get all technical, each of those lavish receptions were for couples who stood a 1 in 2 chance of getting divorced. But when you’re getting down on the dance floor, there’s no room for all that negativity.
In fact, there’s no room for negativity at all. Especially if some new trends prove to be more than just a passing fancy.
Bronx Art Teacher Reveals Seedy Past, Parents Freak Out

Melissa Petro
The New York Post reported yesterday on a shocking story about a young woman named Melissa Petro, a 30-year-old art teacher who has kept her sordid past a secret – until recently.
In an essay she published this month on The Huffington Post, Petro revealed that she’d been a prostitute. In her bio, Petro described herself as a “former sex worker, researcher, writer, educator, and feminist.” But if outraged parents have their way, Petro may be forced to add the word former before the word educator, as well. Why I Don’t Worry About Playing Favorites
“You like Ruby more than you like me!” my 8-year-old daughter Jesse screamed the other day during an argument.
Of course, she knew exactly what to say to upset me. No parent wants to be accused of playing favorites.
Although I didn’t say it at the time, at that moment, I did like Jesse’s little sister more. But that’s only because Jesse and I were in the middle of a fight. The truth is that while I occasionally like one of them more than the other, I always love my daughters equally (because how can you measure love anyway?).
Parents are only human, after all. It makes sense that occasionally, we’re going to clash with our kids’ personalities and prefer one to the other. Continue reading »
How Fighting Childhood Obesity Can Cause Anorexia
I have no doubt that Michelle Obama started her Let’s Move initiative because wants nothing but the best for our nation’s children. But Harriet Brown, author of Brave Girl Eating: A Family’s Struggle with Anorexia, brings up some poignant and critical points about the anti-obesity campaign in her latest column on The Huffington Post. Her overall concern: trying to make kids thinner actually makes them fat.
Brown says she’s “conflicted about the report released in mid-May by Michelle Obama’s task force on childhood obesity,” because the “ideas are all presented in the service of a single goal: to make kids thinner.” She feels it’s dangerous to suggest “that thin is synonymous with healthy, and that we can (and should) make kids thinner.” This opinion is based, of course, on her daughter’s struggle with anorexia. But take one look at where her daughter’s illness started – in her middle school “wellness” class – and you can see that her concerns are not entirely misplaced. Continue reading »
