Melissa and Tony Wescott’s 11-year-old son is ready to come home, but they don’t want him to.
The Wescott’s, who adopted the boy in 2007, want to give him back to the state. In fact they’re fighting to change an Oklahoma law so they can return their adopted son.
When my water broke at 4 a.m. a week before my due date, I called my OB right away.
“Are you sure it broke?” she asked.
“Uhhhh, yeah. Pretty sure.”
“I just saw you yesterday, and I told you that you wouldn’t be ready to go for at least another week.”
I contemplated and rejected at least three different responses before taking a very deep breath and saying, “Should I come to the hospital now or wait until my contractions start?”
“FINE. Come in,” she grumbled. My second daughter was born 12 hours later.
Kids cry all the time. I think my son cried this weekend when I screwed up and didn’t call him by his recently chosen name “Grand Master Batman Flash” (I think I called him “Grand Master Batman Fletch“). There might be no mode that comes more naturally to children than crying.
But for Two-year-old Tianna McHugh crying is not an option. When Tianna cries her body seizes and stiffens, her skin turns white, her heart stops beating and she stops breathing.

When Elizabeth Abraham began nursing her daughter, her breasts dwarfed the baby. Born at 32 weeks gestation, her little girl had a lot of growing to do before she was big enough to nurse.

Having done this parenting blogger gig for awhile, the old “babies switched at birth” story starts to get a little old-hat. But I always find them fascinating, including this latest one: A mother in North Dakota left Mercy Medical Center in Williston with the wrong baby, only to have the mistake discovered shortly thereafter.
The hospital isn’t talking about what the heck happened here – understandably, they want to mimize their lawsuit exposure, but they are reviewing their procedures for discharge after the event. Continue reading »

Nadya Suleman’s 2-year-old son, Caleb, was sprinted to the hospital this weekend after eating a volcano.
Let me back that up. Caleb ingested his older brother’s volcano kit, which mainly comprised of salt water, and when Caleb had a vomitous eruption of his own, Suleman called the paramedics just to be on the safe side. Continue reading »
