Gay teachers make students proud
Tea Party darling Jim DeMint had the gall on Friday night to say at a public rally that he believes gay men and “promiscuous” women should not be teaching in public school classrooms.
Dear Mr. DeMint and your charming Tea Party pals,
First, you are callous. Our whole nation is reeling from the recent deaths of several young people who were bullied to the point of suicide by homophobic peers. Now is not the time to throw gasoline on the flames of hatred. Please, let those of us who don’t share your bigotry grieve.
During this pause for reflection while the GLBTQ community and its allies literally bury their dead and try to comfort young gay teens who feel despair, you might reconsider your position. Continue reading »
Fred Phelps is planning to bring his hate show on the road to Mississippi to picket Constance McMillen’s high school graduation.
The students of Itawamba Regional High School and their parents sent Constance and her girlfriend to a fake prom last month while they partied at a secret prom thrown by parents.
After that stunt, someone might have thought those parents were the most immature bigots in the country. Phelps doesn’t want to let his rep slide, so he’s heading down to show them how pathetic adults can really be when they’re wrapped up in hate and attacking the vulnerable.
It’s pure corniness, but when anyone starts talking about our children being our future, I get ferklempt. And then I found this video. In it a little boy meets his first set of gay men married to one another. And then he asks them to play ping pong.

A mom who converted to evangelical Christianity after ending a lesbian relationship has reportedly taken off with her daughter to keep the child from her ex-girlfriend.

Last week, when Heather Turgeon summarized for Babble Lisa Eliot’s new book on sex differences, Pink Brain, Blue Brain, she gave us this take-away which I’d love to print on a T-shirt and give to every parent, grandparent, toy-maker and teacher:
When it comes to abilities and personality traits, there is way more variation within each sex than there is between the sexes. And the overlap is huge, meaning lots of boys are more verbal than girls and lots of girls are more active than boys.
But your girl is so verbal? Your boy is so active? He loves trucks. She loves dolls. Men are from Mars, women are from Venus! And anyway, the science backs this up.
