Autism and schizophrenia appear to have little in common. The two illnesses are caused by defects in the same set of genes, though, Canadian researchers claim.
The research group, led by evolutionary biologist Bernard Crispi, now believes that the two illnesses are linked. Crispi sees them as opposite expressions of the same genetic problem.
This finding opens the door to the possibility that treatments which are effective for one disorder can be used to help the other.
Does your teenager drive like a maniac? Have they already been in a few accidents? Well it might not be their fault, entirely. It could actually be yours. It has nothing to do with your abilities as a driving instructor or even how you yell “Watch out!” every three minutes when they’re driving. It could be far more basic than that; it could be genetic.
So are you pregnant or thinking about getting pregnant? There’s an app for that. Well, at least to let you know what your kid will look like once it arrives.

Are you fat? And do you worry about your kids getting fat?
Well, if you’re a mom of boys or a dad of girls, you probably don’t have much to worry about, if a new study is an indication. A British study of more than 200 families showed that obese moms are 10 times more likely to have obese daughters and obese dads are six times more likely to have obese sons. The link is behavioral rather than genetic, researchers believe, possibly because kids are mimicking their same-sex parent’s attitudes about food.
