It’s just a dumb game, right? If you use Facebook, you’ve no doubt seen posts from friends seemingly addicted to FarmVille about the little lost lamb they found on the farm or the flower shop they just bought in the virtual world. If you’re involved in the game, these may make for exciting news but if you’re not, you probably just ignore them. Well, it turns out, you might want to start paying a little more attention, especially when the posts come from your own kids.
Does your kid know how to play hopscotch? Mother May I? Dodgeball? Is she in peril of spending her recess period lounging under a tree with a friend, not playing any games at all?
Never fear. A recess coach can teach your kid how to play, and make sure she does it every day.
More and more schools are hiring recess coaches, the New York Times reports. Not only do they get kids up and moving, but they cut down on schoolyard bullying.
It’s not just that your kids are going to get all uppity and in your face after they completely trounce you in Mario Kart or Bowling, playing the Wii can actually be physically dangerous — at least, that’s the warning one doctor is giving after suffering from infraspinatus tendinitis — an inflammation of the back of the shoulder — himself, caused by a Christmas Day round of Wii Tennis. So should we all put our video game systems up for sale on Craigslist or eBay?
There will come a time in your child’s life when their friends’ influence will rival your own, but a new study suggests that when looking for role models, young kids look to their parents.
Sesame Street has done it again. Created an awesome iPhone app, that is. Elmo’s Monster Maker is even more awesome than the first app Sesame Street put out, Grover’s Number Special.
The key difference is that while my kids are fascinated by Grover’s restaurant antics, the adults in the house could not imagine anything less interesting. I’m a little tempted to play the Elmo game even when my kids are not around. It’s just that cool.
When I was a kid, my brother beat me 115 times in a row at Stratego. I know, because we kept score on the box lid. I think I might have won five, and those were “gimmees” given to me by an older brother who was willing to give one up now and then to a little sister who was willing to get trounced again and again.
Remember when the NSA “didn’t exist?” Now they’re so in-your-face that they’re actually courting your kids!
