Do your kids go to one of those schools that’s uber-PC about holidays? At my daughter’s elementary school, we don’t celebrate “Halloween,” we have “Character Day” instead. With that type of holiday re-naming in mind, the team over at Nick Mom imagined what it might be like if Valentine’s Day were re-configured to be less lovey-dovey and more hands-off. Sophia the Lion Tamer!
Okay, the video you’re about to see is amazing for several reasons. First, 3-year-old Sophia Walker stares down a lion at a New Zealand zoo through just a few inches of glass, and when the lion basically tries to maul her, she just laughs it off. That’s either #swag, #idiocy or both. Toddlerhood is filled with foolish bravado – that’s why it’s so entertaining to watch!
The second brilliant thing about this clip is the commentary the newscasters give at the end of the zoo footage. The male newscaster says, “I would have run like a little girl and like wetted myself.” The female newscaster quickly quips in return, “Why wouldn’t you run like a little boy? Do you have to go gender difference on us? I’ll give you my heels to run away.” HA! Continue reading »
Do you like certain people better online?
The Huffington Post’s Lisa Belkin wrote beautifully of how members of the blogosphere came together to help Babble’s Monica Bielanko and her family amass $10,000 to start their lives over after a devastating fire this week. Belkin says, “If you’ve been tempted to dismiss the internet as superficial and souless, and online relationships as a poor imitation of real ones, you might want to talk to Serge and Monica Bielanko today.” It’s true, Monica is very grateful for all the love and support her family has received from a tight-knit community of virtual strangers.
But not all online relationships are so deep and meaningful, and sometimes meeting people in real life with whom we have only digital connections can be a huge disappointment. My real world, honest-to-goodness capital f Friend Livia Scott wrote a song about that exact phenomenon, and it’s been burning up the YouTubes since it was released yesterday. Remember the 5-year-old girl who was vehement about the fact that she must have a job before she’d ever consider getting married? Well, it looks like she’s found her chosen career path: comedy. Oh boy!
In this video, the little sister of 11-year-old singer-songwriter and YouTube personality Anna Graceman, says she needs someone to transcribe Seinfeld’s jokes for her so she can practice them. In a George Costanza-esque frenzy, she cries, “Seinfeld! He does really good jokes! And I can’t do that much jokes because nobody laughs at me! And I need someone to tweet me!” Hilarious. Let him know how ugly he is, but BE SUBTLE.
You may have seen Ask Men’s wildly hilarious piece Top 10: Subtle Ways To Tell Her She’s Getting Fat, since it was circulating pretty widely on the Internet today. (Circulating widely … like her butt … am I right, fellas??? Man, life was way more funner before women and black people got paid to work.)
Ask Men’s post is full of laugh-out-loud funny suggestions like “Buy her clothes that are too small” (you know, a nice tight outfit she can wear while watching Gaslight or other Victorian-era films filled with corsets) and “Sign her up for yoga under the pretense of ‘stress relief.’” (Cuz Lord knows the way you’ve started to pull away and secretly loathe her for gaining weight isn’t cause for actual stress!) Now, I know I’m just a girl in the world, but I thought I’d try to stretch my brain muscles (to make them longer and leaner!) and see if I could come up with a similar list of ways we chubby ladies could tell our fellas that they’re, well, getting a little thin up top.
