As I noted earlier, Working Mother magazine recently interviewed nearly 4,000 mothers nationwide to determine what their worries and needs are. We know now that both mothers who work outside the home and stay-at-home moms carry the weight of retro expectations on their shoulders when it comes to their domestic life, but what about life outside the home? Together during daylight hours
If you’re a man and you decide to leave a big public job and you say you’re leaving because you want “to spend more time” with your family, it’s pretty much dismissed as a joke. But you don’t even have to be a retiring (male) senator to feel the sting of disapproval for deciding to spend time away from the office. If a woman takes a leave to be with her kids, everyone gets it. If a man does, well, how manly is that?
USA Today offers a heaping helping of guilt to working parents today with a story about how work at home hours conflict with family time.
Recent studies have shown that in spite of the rise of dual-income families, parents today spend more time with their kids than they did in the 1950s.
Now USA Today has rounded up a slew of experts to say that parents, especially moms, are hurting our kids by working when they’re around. Don’t worry, though, moms. You can still do housework.
The 10 best jobs in the U.S. aren’t necessarily the 10 least stressful or the 10 most flexible, at least according to CNN Money. But there is one job that overlaps all three lists.
