Will Orphan, the horror movie that opens this week, instill a terror of adopting a child into the hearts and minds of potential adoption families? The film suggests that the act of bringing the wrong orphan into your home could result in pure psycho drama. Adoption groups, already sensing trouble, are rallying to protest the film and to promote a boycott of its release.
In a letter from the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute to Warner Bros.- the studio behind the flick – they state that, “We are concerned that in addition to its intended entertainment value, this film will have the unintended effect of skewing public opinion against children awaiting families both in the United States and abroad.” The letter was signed by the leaders of eleven adoption and child-welfare groups and it also noted that Continue reading »
On “The View”, Barbara Walters informed the world that “Brüno“, the new film from Sacha Baron Cohen, was not for children. Let us be clear about this. I want no confusion. Barbara Walters says that you should not, under any circumstances, bring your children to see “Brüno“.

Tim Burton is taking on Alice in Wonderland and in 3D no less. You know he’s going take Alice to a totally epic and even odder Wonderland than is generally portrayed in film, books and pop culture. More photos of the upcoming movie – which won’t be released until Spring 2010 – are being released. The new “Harry Potter” movie is here, much to the delight of millions of children (and many of their parents).
One of the interesting aspects of the “Potter” films is that they managed to keep the same actors for all of them, which is unusual. What this means is that we get to see them grow up. Here are some before and after pics of Rupert Grint (“Ron Weasley”), Emma Watson (“Hermione Granger”) and Daniel Radcliffe (“Harry Potter” – as if you didn’t know). Continue reading »
I sometimes feel sympathy when critics review movies that are clearly meant for children. (For example, A.O. Scott in the New York Times.) “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” is definitely not geared towards adults, and while it doesn’t have the same level of all-ages enjoyment as Pixar’s “Up”, there are some scenes that will resonate with parents. I need to point out that the two 8-year-olds I saw it with laughed from start to finish. One of them, my son, asked me to include the following in this review: “It has a very good amount of comedy, it’s much more fun to see in 3-D because then you get a better effect, and it’s a great movie. I give it ten thumbs up even though I don’t have ten thumbs, I only have two.” So odds are, your kids will love it. Continue reading »

Kodak is offering five thousand dollars to anyone who can help them find The Boy With The Yellow Rose. So he can meet the love of his life, Megan Fox. I find the whole thing irritating.
What am I yammering about now?
Here’s what happened. On June 15, Ms. Fox was leaving the London premiere of “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”, a film in which she appears. A boy offered her a rose. She ignored him.
