We know Dr. Seuss as the beloved children’s book writer, but did you know he also had a stint as an ad man of sorts?

Check out 10 of his ad illustrations here, where you can see that undeniable Seuss charm shine through in ad artwork for insect repellent, Ford, beer, General Electric, and more.

Seuss’ Flit insecticide ad included his slogan, “Quick, Henry, the Flit!,” which became a catchphrase of the day.

Release date: September 27, 2011

According to Random House, “It’s the literary equivalent of buried treasure!”  The soon-to-be-released Dr. Seuss book, “The Bippolo Seed and Other Lost Stories” is comprised of original Seuss tales that “appeared in Redbook magazine in 1950 and 1951 but never made it to book form,” says MediaBistro.

Books for children are rarely subtle. Points are made clearly, obviously, and over and over again. You may also experience a certain amount of repetition when it comes to the reading of these books, as children are sometimes known to request the same book more than once (or more than a hundred times).

In the process, you are likely to develop a deep understanding of the message the author was trying to convey. Sometimes so deep that you feel the point of the story has etched marks on the inside of your skull. If you’re an impatient and easily bored parent like me, you might find yourself wishing the books were just a little bit… shorter.

In which case you will appreciate the work of Dan Wilbur, who has compiled a collection of the world’s greatest books, distilled down to their very essences. As in: a newly revised title, meant to encapsulate the entire message of the book.

This one would have had a different title if he had written it about my clan.

Today is the birthday of the great Ted Geisel, better known, of course, as Dr. Seuss. Everyone has a favorite Dr. Seuss quote. Mine is Cindy Lou Who who was no more than two. I delighted in saying it over and over again as a child. No one ever has had a greater impact on generations upon generations of young readers than the iconic children’s author. And I think there are three primary reasons why.

• 1. Everyone love a great rhyme.
• 2. Dr. Seuss’ rhymes were wonderfully simplistic with impeccable meter which meant that his words practically read themselves, leaping off the page no matter who was reading them.
• 3. Yet as simple as his rhymes were, the imagination behind them were anything but.

Today I thought it would be fun to pay homage to the great doctor by coming up with a list of what 5 of his greatest books would have been called if he had written them about my family. Without further ado, here they are:

March 2nd is Read Across America Day in honor of the birthday of Dr. Seuss

March 2nd was the birthday of Dr. Seuss, and for the 14th consecutive year, the National Education Association has declared today Read Across America Day, in which libraries, schools and community centers celebrate the legacy of one of the most dynamic children’s authors of all time. Read Across America is spotlighted today, but it’s actually a year-round reading and motivation awareness program.

There’s no better time than the present to make sure your kids are caught up on some of the most classic Dr. Seuss books.

Watchable Seuss: he wrote the screenplay and lyrics

Typically, you’d want to avoid eggs that are green and also most meats that carry the color. But today, they’re OK to eat. In fact, a second plate would be fine as well.

Today is Dr. Seuss’ birthday and it’s definitely worth celebrating. Dr. Seuss, or, more specifically, the man behind the rhymes, Theodor Geisel, would have been 107 this year.

But if you can’t stomach the eggs and you’d rather keep Cindy Lu Who with your Christmas stuff — or if just want some new way of honoring the great children’s author, try getting your hands on a copy of the film “5000 Fingers of Dr. T.” Geisel wrote the screenplay and the lyrics. The Cat in the Hat is among Dr. Seuss' most famous works

Dr. Seuss, or Theodor Seuss Geisel, would have been 107 on Wednesday, March 2nd. In honor of his birthday, here’s an essential reading list of 10 of his greatest hits that you should be sure to read (and re-read and re-read and re-read and re-read) with your kids:

1. Green Eggs and Ham

Sam I Am and your kids will likely agree – there’s not much to like about green eggs and ham at first, but there’s little doubt the book will be devoured time and again.

2. The Cat in the Hat
Think you have a little gremlin at home? Keep in mind that it could always be worse! Leave your kids home alone at your own risk, especially if there’s a chance you have a Cat in the Hat in your neighborhood.

3. The Thinks You Can Think
Give your kids’ imaginations carte blanche to run wild. “Oh the thinks you can think up if only you try.”
