One of the world’s best-known experts on obstetrics has announced he thinks Dads need to get out of the delivery room and leave the women to it.
Dr. Michel Odent is a French obstetrician who’s heavily involved in the orgasmic birth and home-birthing movements. Last year, he wrote a piece in the Daily Mail espousing his theories about why dad needs to stay “nearby” for the birth, but stay out of the delivery room.

When my girls were two and four, I took them to an urgent care clinic one weekend after their fevers — which had been gone for two days following dual ear infections — suddenly spiked. I wasn’t looking for antibiotics, I was looking for reassurance that they hadn’t developed something nasty. What I got was a stern lecture on antibiotic abuse, a pamphlet repeating the lecture, and a bill for $50.
I was annoyed — he didn’t even examine my kids, after all, and he was really condescending. But that hard line on antibiotic use seems to taming our country’s unhealthy habit of prescribing antibiotics for what’s usually a viral illness.
With cold and flu season just around the corner, it’s a good time to review exactly when to see your doctor when your child develops an ear infection.
It was all so very nice when, after word came that Michael Jackson passed, the zeitgeist chose to remember the sweeter times. The less controversial, more moonwalking times.
If only it could have ended there.
The sordidness around Jackson’s death kicked up 1,000 notches when the LA coroner ruled the performer’s death a homicide yesterday.
Tests showed Jackson was administered propofol, a powerful anesthetic, which mixed lethally with two sedatives Jackson already had in his system.
If any of you saw Bruno, and it’d be pretty hard to forget if you had, you’ll remember the scene in which Bruno interviews the parents of child actors. As Bruno’s questions become increasing ridiculous (“Is your child okay working with bees?”), the parents unflinching agree to put their children through outright traumatic paces. At one point Bruno asks if a woman’s 30 pound child could lose 10 pounds in a week and if said parent would be willing to resort to liposuction if necessary.
“Sure, if it gets her the job,” the parent said.
This scene, for me, was a low point in the film because it seemed there was no way this was for real. No parent, no human being, would honestly give their child liposuction, right?
