Turns out eratic weather patterns aren’t only annoying to us. NASA was forced to delay the launch of the shuttle Endeavor AGAIN. This time it was lightning. They’ll try again today.

The New York Times is reporting that former Vice-President Dick Cheney ordered the CIA to withhold “information about a secret counterterrorism program from Congress for eight years.” (Is that bad? That sounds kind of bad.) Senator Dianne Feinstein says that the Bush administration broke the law if this is true. But they kept us SAFE. So that makes it OKAY. Right? Continue reading »

Some folks are saying that gas prices, already averaging close to three bucks a gallon, may hit that number soon. Actually, some places are there already. The L.A. Times reports that “a Mobil station in Goleta, near Santa Barbara, was charging $3.69 a gallon and a Chevron in Shoshone, near Death Valley National Park, was posting $3.66.” Ouch. Granted, gas prices are lower than they were last year. But as this Weather Channel video points out, the summer is nearly upon us, and perhaps some families were planning to take vacations that involved driving rather than other more expensive options. (One thing for sure — we’ll all be bombarded by the term “stay-cation” for the next few months. Oh joy.) • “Biden expresses ‘doubts’ about Iranian election”: doubts about its “validity,” according to CNN. I like how he says he has doubts about the election results but, you know, doesn’t want to comment. Um, dude? Mr. Veep guy? That is a comment.
• “Iran’s president declines to guarantee safety of defeated rival Mir Hossein Moussavi” (CNN)

So Dick Cheney, the man who spent much of his time in office at an “undisclosed location,” has been everywhere lately. Mostly he’s telling anyone who will listen how much he disagrees with the job that Barack Obama is doing as President. But he also came out (no pun intended) in favor of gay marriage. In his own words: “I think that freedom means freedom for everyone. The Republican/Conservative Hive Mind Coalition has decided how to attack Supreme Court nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor. What is it? Drum roll, please… She’s a racist! This comment from Rush Limbaugh is… well, you decide: “Limbaugh called the president ‘the greatest living example of a reverse racist,’ and said that he has picked another for the Supreme Court vacancy of retiring Justice David Souter. Limbaugh later equated Sotomayor to former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke.” David Duke? Huh? The comment Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich and Hive Mind members are clinging to is one that Sotomayor made at a Duke Law School symposium in 2001: “a wise Latina woman would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.” Continue reading »
