Cloth or disposable, breast or formula, and intact vs. circumcision. There is no secret mothering today has become an all out war in real life, and on the internet. In recent weeks we have seen the fall out from an attack on attachment parenting, which for me sparked a flame inside of me as someone who practices several aspects of attachment parenting. Although what plagues me the most is the way we are treating each other.
Anyone who says the health care system isn’t broke never said that to the face of a young child who lost his mother. Marcelas Owens, whose mother died of pulmonary hypertension, is taking his message straight to congress.
“The health care system is broken, and it caused my mother’s death,” Marcelas said in an interview on MSNBC.
Is it a fashion statement? An invitation to debate? Or just one of those things kids (and by kids, I mean anyone under 30) do to differentiate themselves from those who came before? Friedrich Nietzsche first wrote that “God is Dead” more than 125 years ago and I’m sure it stirred up some controversy back then. Fast forward to modern day Washington State and the sentiment is once again causing a stir — this time over a high school yearbook photo.
Studying 10 areas of California, researchers at UC Davis found a link between kids with autism and parents with above average levels of education. While also seeking environmental factors precluding autism, the study found none.
When a Facebook using a third-party application created a poll asking the question “Should Obama be killed?”, Secret Service agents took the implied threat very seriously.
They shut down the application — which included choices like “yes,” “maybe,” and “if he cuts my health care” — removed the poll, and went searching for it’s user. Their “man” hunt turned up a surprise, though: The poll creator was a child.
