This anti abortion billboard is set to stay for three weeks.
A billboard aimed to push the anti-abortion movement is disturbing many people, particularly African Americans.
Set in the middle of New York City’s popular Soho, it displays a picture of a little African-American girl and states, “The most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb.”
The billboard was paid for by the anti-abortion group Life Always, and it hangs a short half-mile from a Planned Parenthood.
According to the Huffington Post, Life Always Board Member Pastor Stephen Broden explains his reasoning behind the billboard: “During Black History Month, we celebrate our history, but our future is in jeopardy as a genocidal plot is carried out through abortion.”
Another Life Board member, Rev. Derek McCoy agrees that the billboard does push the envelope, “We do think we’ve gone too far, and we do think it’s over the edge,” he said. “But the city’s abortion rates have crossed the mark and are over the top.
Today will go down as a sad one in the history of women as the House voted to strip Planned Parenthood of federal funding
Earlier today the House of Representatives passed a measure 240-185 that would bring an end to federal funding for Planned Parenthood. After the final passage on some underlying spending bills, the bill will head to the Senate for a possible vote later this month.
If the amendment goes into law, the measure would cut $330 million through the end of September for the organization. While federal law prohibits its dollars from providing abortion services, Planned Parenthood also provides family planning, HIV tests and preventative cancer and other medical screenings.
Free birth control may be available soon
This month, the federal government will begin deciding what forms of birth control, if any, they’ll include as free preventative care under the new health reform bill. They have till next August to decide.
Making free birth control available could go a long way towards cutting the rate of unintended pregnancies. Currently, half of all pregnancies fall into the “whoops!” category. That’s a whole lot of unplanned pregnancy.
But is birth control really preventative medicine? Doctors and women’s health experts think so. The Catholic Church, on the other hand, sees it as a lifestyle choice.

But it isn’t great for everybody. Today in Salon, Geraldine Sealey shares her own misadventures with the Pill. Her story sounds a lot like many, many whispered conversations I’ve been part of about how hormonal birth control isn’t all it’s promised to be.
Kids grow up — it’s a fact of life. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, what with college and starting a career and grandkids and all. But along the way, there are going to be rough spots and the biggest of these, for parents, at least, may very well be puberty. One way to handle the issue is to ignore it, of course, leaving your child’s education up to the schools and the schoolyard, but that’s generally not considered ideal. Talking to one’s children about sex, however, has got to be pretty high up there on the list of Things Parents Don’t Want To Do.
