Apple has given a controversial app the boot from its iTunes roster
Apple can fly its rainbow colors with pride once again.
After an app went on sale in iTunes by a religious group that claimed it could “heal” homosexuality, Apple has pulled it from their virtual shelves, saying it violated their policy by “being offensive to large groups of people.”
Nearly 150,000 people signed a petition in protest of the app, which was created by Exodus International. The religious group claims they “help” gay people through teachings in the Bible. However, Apple’s guidelines say inappropriate hate speech are in violation of their practices.
Will a "gay cure" app in iTunes spoil Apple for you?
I’m the first to admit that I’m a hypocrite. I don’t let my daughter have a piece of chocolate after dinner if I feel like she hasn’t had enough fruits and vegetables throughout the day, while I might have had nothing leafy or green in a week and eat a sleeve of Girl Scout cookies for lunch.
But she’s only 2 and I know that most of what I say and do along those lines only has a mild affect on her now, particularly because she’s all about her and doesn’t notice if I say one thing and do another. When she gets a little older, wiser and more aware of anyone but herself, I have no doubt I’ll work harder at setting a better example.
A company like Apple, on the other hand, can hardly get away with being two-faced because its audience is very tuned in to what it’s doing — literally. Which is why I find it rather shocking that they would allow a “gay cure” app to be sold on iTunes.
You might have heard that Hasbro recently came up with a Ouija board “just for girls.” What, you ask, makes a game that consists of a piece of a cardboard and a plastic triangle “just for girls?” Why, the color pink, of course!

These days, it seems, every where you turn, someone’s either trying to foist their religious beliefs on you or take yours away. Christians want to put up Christmas trees in city parks and buildings but don’t want to allow Jews, Wiccans, or Seinfeld fans to put up a menorah, Yule log, or Festivus pole. And the Atheists would rather not see any of it. Of course, it is important that the government not endorse one religion over the other and one place that the separation of church and state is critical is in the school system. But what about the separation of church and student?
A Michigan school district has caught the eye of the Wisconsin-based Freedom from Religion after they changed the name of their December vacation from “winter break” to “Christmas break,” reports the Petoskey News Review.
The group, which according to the Petoskey News Review is the largest association of atheists and agnostics in the country, took issue with the Petoskey Public School Board taking the apparent backwards step of changing the name from the more inclusive “winter break” to the less politically correct “Christmas break.”
The move may have gone unnoticed if it hadn’t been for board member Jack Waldvogel’s controversial and somewhat bullying email to his fellow board members.
You know all those schools being sued for NOT protecting kids from bullying? A California school district is another boat going in the other direction. Parents are suing the Alameda schools for requiring their kids learn to BE NICE to other kids. Gasp!
Of course these kids aren’t any old kids – they’re lesbian, gay and transgender kids who the school district dares to think should be protected from getting their asses kicked on the playground. Continue reading »
