The staff of Rally Software in Boulder, CO was growing–at least their families were. CEO Tim Miller counted seventeen new additions born to various staff members and realized that he needed to do something to accommodate these potential future software developers.
Janice Min makes the big bucks and feels no need to apologize for it. When she and her future husband Peter exchanged, “I do’s”, the young wife aspired to be a journalist, while hubby had his sights set on becoming a teacher. Neither expected to become the sole breadwinner.
Flash forward twelve years and Min is Editor-in-Chief of Us Weekly, bringing home a cool 2 mil. While Peter had been successful professionally, his wife hit the journalistic Mount Olympus, at least in the monetary sense. Continue reading »

A recent post about a single mother soldier who refused deployment to care for her son has spurred a lively debate about what limits and protections, if any, should be afforded to mothers in the military.

No matter how loyal one is to the military, there’s not a parent alive who can’t sympathize with the predicament of Alexis Hutchinson, a 21-year-old single mother and army cook who refused to deploy to Afghanistan because she had no one to care for her son. Hutchinson is currently confined to Hunter Army Field in Georgia and may face criminal charges, depending on what the Army’s investigators turn up. Continue reading »
