Last night, a Los Angeles news reporter suffered what may have been a stroke on live TV. Local CBS correspondent Serene Branson was about to describe the star-studded scene at the Grammys when something went dreadfully awry. Though it was Branson’s voice that gave out, her eyes are what that told the true story.
The resulting video footage has now gone viral and offers a modern day lesson similar to the one in The Boy Who Cried Wolf to a nation of grown-ups who are seemingly acting like children.

Los Angeles reporter Serene Branson suffered what may be a possible stroke as she reported on live TV from the Grammys. She began her report for CBS 2 News in Los Angeles and was supposed to run through a recap of highlights from the show. Almost immediately, her speech slurred and became unintelligible.
As she spoke, she looked fine but seemed to be aware that her words were not coming out right. It must have been a very scary moment for her as she tried to continue for about 10 seconds. As soon as the station recognized there was a problem, they cut away to pre-recorded Grammy coverage.
According to a recent report in The New York Times, strokes are becoming more common in younger people. Whether the dietary problems, obesity, and the growing cases of diabetes in the country are to blame or if the medical community is just getting better at early diagnosis is yet to be determined.
The viral video of a 3-year-old parodying Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” video has triggered some hand-wringing around the internet and, this morning, over at CBS. There, the mother of Keira Ladrow, who wears handcuff necklaces and clacks across a bar in heels in the video, defends the racy YouTube upload and says it has not at all harmed her daughter.

UPDATE: School officials say they won’t comment on the story until they meet with an attorney. Jeez, not so much as a “this is regrettable” or “more could have been done.” Teachers watched the abuse Prince received the day she took her life, and yet no mea culpa from the school. Personally, I find this whole story very depressing. This video of the 9-year-old boy, Sean Goldman, saying that he wants to remain in Brazil with his Stepfather, doesn’t do anything to make me feel any better about it.
I’m not saying the kid should or shouldn’t stay. But it’s hard for me to accept the idea that he wasn’t coerced into saying that he wants to “stay in Brazil.” Continue reading »
