A lot of people might look at the anti-vax folks and wonder why it matters if those folks don’t get their kids vaccinated. If their kids get sick because they aren’t protected, it’s no skin off anyone else’s nose, right? Wrong. A new study shows exactly the opposite: vaccinating kids protects the entire community.
A Canadian court ruled this week that Canada can assume permanent guardianship of two children whose parents were raising them to become Neo-Nazis.

Two Winnipeg, Manitoba teachers have been suspended without pay after performing a simulated lap dance at a recent pep rally.
The dance was captured on tape and, of course, posted on YouTube for the world to see. Rumor has it, there’s even a Facebook fan page. Watch the video below:
Yesterday, Toronto’s Globe and Mail dropped a bomb on Canadian women: it’s standard practice in Canadian hospitals for women to be given unnecessary practice pelvic exams by medical students while they are unconcious under general anasthesia. Without their knowledge of consent.
Um…what? We have a place for people who like to probe women’s private bits without consent, and it’s not our teaching hospitals. It’s called prison.
In general I’d like the U.S. health care system to be more like Canada’s, but I was vastly relieved to note that U.S. and European hospitals explicitly forbid this practice.
If you ask me, it would be bad enough spending six hours in a Walmart shopping, let alone sitting in a back room with a couple of obstinate security officers. That’s what happened to 14-year-old Sydney Robinson and a friend after the security guards at a Canadian Walmart accused Sydney of stealing a $1 pack of gum. They took Sydney and her friend into their custody to await arrival of police — who were unusually busy after the killing of a constable that day. So Sydney and her friend sat there for six hours, without food or water, while her parents, Scott and Diane Robinson, took turns staying with them.
Lauri Price, a 42 year old Houston mom remains in custody on Wednesday, accused of flying to Canada to have a sexual encounter with a 16 year old boy with whom she had an online relationship for about a year.
Canadian health authorities have issued a recall of 26,000 Melissa & Doug toys for excessive amounts of barium in the surface paint.
The recall comes as a surprise, since Melissa & Doug has, in its 20-year history, been billed as an alternative to cheap plastic and sometimes unsafe toys sold on the market.
