Some high school students are clearly destined for greatness. You just know that they’ll end up making it big in Hollywood or that they’ll design wonderful buildings or that they’ll make some big scientific discovery. And some high school students don’t bother waiting for graduation; they get started right away. Such is the case with 17-year-old Brenda Tan and 18-year-old Matt Cost of New York. As part of a science project, the two students have uncovered what may turn out to be a new species of cockroach.
Do you have a real Christmas tree? A lot of people are switching to artificial trees these days but we opted for a real tree — although in our house it’s a Holiday Tree, rather than a Christmas Tree. Whatever you call your tree — a Christmas tree, ein Tannenbaum, a Chanukah bush, or simply a Holiday Tree — if it’s real, you may want to be a bit careful; there may be blood-sucking parasites lurking amongst its branches.
Perhaps it’s just our tendency to anthropomorphize every animal we draw in a picture book. Or perhaps the theory that early humans really evolved as prey species more than predators holds water and we have some innate loyalty for the home team despite our actual omnivorous ways.
